What flamenco is NOT

http://herso.freeservers.com/isnot.html

A well written and humourous article. Sorry if some-one already posted this. Most here will agree with the writer, especially about the pink bird.

Yep the guy has a sense of humour! This bit seemed particularly relevant to me:

the venue manager may expect me to wear a sombrero

Last week I was dancing at a restaurant which was holding a 'Spanish night'. All the waitresses wore mexican sombreros hanging down their backs, and the waiters were in bright flowery shirts and had stick on moustaches!!! I think it just goes to show that the influence of Spain is so wide ranging that almost anything can be considered Spanish......

When I was in Chicago with Taller de Compás they were presented with a certificate which honoured them for their musical contribution to Latin American Culture !!

So maybe its that anything Spanish is considered Latin American.

A travel agent once told she could not find Spain anywhere on her map. Yes you guessed she was looking at South America !!

Kate

See you soon in Granada Ailsa

Hehe, its actually "Diego" Bashoruno, so yet another "o"
Diego being the Spanish for James.
Of course, silly me - I forgot your name, and, seeing just the 'J' my mind automatically went to that other maestro so beloved of many foreros. Thanks for the correction, Don Diego!

Yes, I've always thought of you and Ailsa as being elegant birds.

Sad that there comes an age in every woman's life when she feels that being referred to as a 'bird' is almost flattering. However Kate is not at that age yet!

However, elegant is good. I'll take that as a complement.

I thought 'Jam-ez' was Spanish for James... or was that Spanglish?
I like to call one of my friends 'Ja-mess', anyway...

Jaime from the Latin Jacomus so I think it may be Jacob or James. We call Santiago de Compostela St James. Diego is a Spanish abbreviation of Santiago. Ya'akov in Hebrew. Giacomo in Italian.

I thomk we went through this before on another thread which is how come I remember.

LOL am not sure that I will ever reach the age where I would like being called a bird, but yes elegant works for me

And I think I may be older than you think Ailsa. In Gypsy terms I could be a Great Grandmother by now. Still I here I get called 'Hija' by people who are far too young to be calling me that.

Kate
ps Only a few days to go Ailsa till you are out here. We hot 44 degrees today.
