HAHA you really have to watch the last ten seconds! He tries to do a pullof scale and completely, totally suckkks at it, and closes the camera with "thats flaminco"

he should decide if he wants to play E phryg or E minor.

OK..it's complete rubbish as we all know, but the interesting thing for me is noting how he cannot let go of his "blues" influence, which he's been exposed to all his life through records and the radio.
An Andalucian guy attempting blues/rock for the first few times would have a completely different sound, even on a steel string guitar, with completely the wrong flavour and more Flamenco/Spanishy.
Anybody ever see Vincente Amigo's debut at playing Electric guitar at the Sevilla Expo?

Oh yeah!!! I am HAAAA-PPY!!! There IS actually someone who's WORSE at Flamenco guitar than I am... well, thats put me in a good mood!

Hey, I liked the way he played all this on a STEEL stringed guitar, lol.

You gotta laugh at his confidence too... at least I KNOW that my playing sucks! But he seems to be blissfully ignorant...

Why is it that everyone assumes that when they play something remotely Spanish sounding, it's flamenco? Or, Flamingo in most cases.

It would be a better use our time and resources to show this guy what flamenco is. Send him an invitation to something more flamenco. Perhaps one of my lessons.

you wont believe it but i remember when i was playing E-guitar years ago, i had the same idea about Flamenco chords and scales and how to play them LOL
To me it sounded mucho flamenco at that time.....haha

But at least i never tried to teach my "flamingo" to others like this guy

I think he saw that video from paul gilbert and is trying to copy that kind of flamingo!

Born and raised in Dallas. I went to Arts Magnet High School along with Roy Hargrove, Aarron Comas (Spin Doctors), Edie Brickell and New Bohemians, Erika Badu etc..... My family is still in the DFW area, but I don't get home to visit much. I am due for a visit actually, but I am busy as hell at the moment producing 4 different CDs of various styles of music for other artists, promoting 2 bands that I have recently worked with in the studio and of course my website and the normal gigging schedule. I have other recording projects waiting in the wings, so I will probably be busy like this for a while. Its a good thing, but I need some rest.........
My Aunt and Uncle live in Denton.

I just saw a pic of your guitar. Looking great. I am sure it sounds good too. I will have to check out your website soon.

I have to get off to a gig now. It is my yearly student guitar recital. I am playing an Alegrias duet of advanced material along with my 8 Year Old child prodigy student Roberto Granados. David McClean, Esteban Bello, Geoff Hawkins, Victor Chao, Sam Azar, Peter Nurney and Richard Deslonde are also performing. It should be a blast.
I am proud of them on this Fathers Day.

I like that, Jason, 'instead of Negativity we should talk about that light within us that is the flamenco,' and we should, and we should talk about it's 'power and beauty,' and we should, more often, and this is the forum to do it. That is real insight, and it should be done. You are absolutely right........thankyou!

Hi Jason,
Nice to have you on the Forum and thanks for that accompaniment lesson.
That kind of instruction is pretty thin on the ground.

Speaking of Dallas TX, I attended a month long course at TI there many years ago when I was in my twenties and spent many wasted nights in the clubs and bars of Greenville Avenue with my other classmates.
Great time.
(God knows how we ever passed the exam at the end....

)
