Guys

Has anyone shipped Anders's guitar to the US? Is it safe? (as in what's the likelihood the mail man will bring it to me in small pieces?

Hi Bogdan.

I´ve shipped some 8 guitars to the US. and they have all arrived sound and safely. No problems at all, taking 2 - 3 days.
I use Mailboxes which ship with UPS and I only accept to ship with insurrance. Everyone else here in Granada is using this company and we are talking about a lot of guitars every year, so they know what they are doing.

Anders

Thanks Anders
I'm not trying to go behind your back or anything. It's just that when so much money is at stake and something so precious I want to make sure all is covered. Hope you understand.

Bogdan

Hi Bogdan

I fully understand and I think its good you ask around about guitar, shipping and whatever.

I´m so active here that I have to be completely straight with everything. If not, I could easily get into trouble.

Hey Anders, I'm looking to have a really custom flamenco guitar built in the next few years and I was wondering if you would be interested and can give an rough estimate price....

I want pedouk sides and back with a spruce top, 650mm scale, cutaway with an extended fingerboard over the soundhole (24 frets for E, B and G strings). I would also like a truss rod, which some flamenco builders say sure and some say absolutely not

I've considered building it myself but I don't have so much time on my hands anymore and when I do build it's mostly violins. I've also never built a flamenco guitar, mostly acoustics and a few classicals.

Hi Erik

Well, besides the trussrod, theres nothing really extra, so the price will be the one on my website at the time you order.

With respect of trussrod, it would have to be a two way truss rod. You know one of those who can bend the neck both ways. Nylonstring dont give enough tension in the neck so that a one way trussrod works. (I´m sure you know what I´m talking about)

What are you playing? Speedscaling or something like that. Fingers or pick?

You see, that's one thing about the forums...everyone is all over the place. Stick to TOPIC!!!!! SHIPPING REMEMBER???

Also Anders, I don't know why but six month making period is for some reason registered in my head. Is that how long it takes to make the instrument (without any crazy whims that is)?

Anders, I'm familiar with the two way rod and completely agree =) You know I just think a truss rod is essential because I live in Florida, USA and it is very humid here. When I travel I have to give my guitars a neck adjustment and a truss rod makes it much less work

I wasn't sure if the pedouk would add to the price or not. I just really want to see how pedouk will work with nylon strings, I think it should come out very warm and give it a fairly unique tone. I have a steel-stringed guitar with a body that is between 3/4 and classical size, with pedouk back and sides and red cedar top that I enjoy very much, but it sounds very bright because the top is very thin (and cedar). Even with the small body, the guitar is as loud as most dreadnaughts.

I like to play with a capo very high up the neck, I guess you could say speed scaling. I like to have options to do new or different things. I use my fingers, no pick on nylon strings.

Bogdan, I think the six month is because I wrote you that I could finish a guitar for you in autumn. This has to do with waiting list, wood preparation and I also build more than 1 guitar at a time.

If I made 1 guitar, all from scratch it would take me around 4 - 5 weeks + French polish and final setup. (another month)

Erik, we are abit out focus because this thread is about shipping. I will reply shorthly and you can always mail me: eliasson_a@yahoo.es

The thing I dont like so much about trussrods is that they are heavy. Especially the two way version. And adding weight to a flamenco guitar neck is not positive IMHO. Also, I build with a double reinfocement strips in the neck, so it should be quite stable and so far I havent had problems with necks.

The Padauk/Cedar I just finished had a very strong tone and powerfull trebles. But more than anything else, its very responsive.

Anders

I think six months is perfectly fine, it'll give me time to regroup after the first payment to the last payment
