Jesus de Rosario Sin Tanto

Hi everyone,

I just wish to pass on my review of this new disc. I encourage everyone here to buy this album because it's great, and because this is the kind of artist for which if you do not support them, they may never make a new cd... I know we are all excited about hearing new guitarists with new flamenco ideas.

Sin Tanto's on full blast on my stereo every day since I received it, baby. It's incredible. His technique is staggering. He probably learned a bit from working with Gerardo Nunez, but it is also typical of all of the guys from the cano roto (Ramon Jimenez, El Viejin, Jeronimo). More importantly, this disc is packed with fresh playing and the duende is an intense one. Granted, some of his ensemble compositions may be called overwrought, but he is young and exuberant. There are also great appearances by some young cantaors, solea por buleria with Guadiana, buleria with Tomatito, a rondena dedicated to Rafael Riqueni, Pirana on cajon, among others. Etc... Etc...

Yes, there are many bulerias on the cd.. all great. But also a bit strange. I heared the cd very often but there is no special passage which stays in my head. All is very homogeneous. No catchy tune and I cant figure out falsetas. All is a very mixed mass of tones. I like the cd very much. At the momet I hear it. (The Rumba) But its a cd which you can only hardly undersand. I hope he makes more cds with different palos in future.

I understand your point doitsujin.
I was thinking in general, both cante cd´s and guitar cd´s are filed with bulerias and rumbas.
and it´s kind of .zzz....zzzzzzzzzz but i guess it´s good for the radio play.

I found this thread via Google, searching for things from JdR. I had actually planned to open a thread for it, too, maybe with some samples.

This is my favorite album/player, and it took me from the first listening. I think the melodies ARE very catchy. Hard to say, but i think he was able to point out what he want to say, even if it is complex what he plays. The Bulerias Duett with Tomatito is hard to listen, but it is also interesting. He is abit "overloading" though, with second guitars.

The beginning of the Solea por B is unbelievable isnt it?
The reason why its hard to memorize might be that he doesnt stick to the loop as much as other players. The whole album is one great syncopation But i love it, it makes everything feel "freely" and light

Well after reading that review I thought I've just got to have that. So went on Amazon uk, which is 4 to 6 weeks delivery! (because it's an import) I can't wait that long now you've got my interest going - impatience is my middle name. Where do you guys (UK based) get your CDs from?

Thanx

I have not been getting into new CD's lately, but this one is surprisingly good. This guy Jesus is definately a cut above the rest. The Rondeña was real sweet and memorable. He did a variation on an old Paco falseta toward the end. I disagree about having lots of bulerias. I mean that is the most import rhythm in the world of flamenco, so much can be done with it and use it as a composition tool. I prefer to hear an album full of various types if bulerias than to hear every palo just for variety. It depends on the player. I like to hear a player doing what he does best, rather than force himself to compose variations for every palo libre or whatever.

I fint it a bit strange, that there are absolutely NO videos from Jose Manuel Leon (ok, 1 Video) and Jesus Rosario on YouTube. Other players that are far worse get more attention (hey this is not related to the guitarrist in your post, romerito. They are all great.). This is an unfair world.
If i remember right, all Tomatito albums are Bulerias inter-mixed with Tangos-Rumbas. Works very well IMO. And i would be sad if he (Jesus) removed only one of those Bulerias. They are all my favorite compositions, every three different. Again, tastes are different.

RE: Jesus de Rosario Sin Tanto (VIDEO) (in reply to Conrad

Duende, too much whiskey is not good, as well as too much bulerias!

There is a video of Jesus. On this page:

There is a DVD out, with El Entri, Jesus' father?, and his students (also El Viejin). On that page is a preview of that. I ordered the DVD. I have to see how this guy plays...
