what to do during uninspired patches?

Im sure everybody has those times where theyre just not inspired enough to do any serious work on the guitar or one feels theyre playing has 'plateaued' and theyre waiting to pass this 'plateau'.
It may last a couple of days or it may last months. Im interested in hearing what everyones different approach to this, and what they do to combat it. Do you just keep plodding along with exercises and hammer out repitoire even though your not particulary enjoying it, or maybe find inspiration in a dvd of a great player or learn something completly new or go see a show or whatever.

Go clubbing, watch dvds, have sex, play computer games, listen to flamenco albums, put other peoples music down here (always helps a litlle ).

serious, everyone gets em, i found out i never ever get em when i got new strings, i always get uninspired when my strings are old, and sound like crap

If the feeling of lack of progress is because of of lot of technique training, then you need to take a few days off, so the hands can recover.

If its generally a feeling of boredom with it, i guess it could be helped by either seeing or listeing to something really inspiring, trying to compose, meeting another guitarist or just doing something else.

Sometimes you can get that feeling that the energy is gone, from putting too high goals for yourself, then just play anything for fun, flamenco or not doesnt matter.

I usually try to imitate songlines with the guitar when i feel like that, some things are easy to imitate, other times it sounds hilarious and make me fall off the chair laughing, but it gets me in a more 'playful' mood.

Another way is trying out different voicings and harmonized scales over a loop.

Taking a few days off is a sure cure.

If not, then switching up the routine.

Sometimes listening to Paco or whatever will get me pumped up!

What to do during uninspired patches?

Try a second instrument, works for me. I have a couple of octave mandolins which I switch to when I am fed up. I also play a completely different repertoire on them, and I accompany a Northumbrian Smallpiper once a week in a folk club. THAT clears your head!

Drink an espresso.
Then:
Go out for a 40 mile bike ride.

Works every time

Remember the bike ride was an advice from Anders. But I still do it every day.

For the rest I strictly have divided guitarplaying in ceveral components. Like technique practising, learning pieces, composing, listening etc.
When I have a dip I try to analyse which components are causing the dip.
There always seem to be one component which is still working for me so I concentrate on that.

Yes I think too much I know
