Adios amigos

Sadly the foro has taken a turn I believe for the worse. Yes it is probably a humour defect on my part but cést la vie - I have better things to do with my time. I like to think of JM as a friend and seeing anyone become the focus of such negative discussion (note I´m beingh polite) I believe is unacceptable. OK this might all be put down to alcohol or stupidity but when insults are thrown at other members who I respect and democracy is defined as 22 people .............

To those who have helped me and especially Simon and Ron for all their efforts many thanks.

Nigel

For those who rate JM they might like to note I received this reply from Helen when I asked if the performance was as in the book.

Hi Nige
I asked Juan. He slowed it down and said:

'The little finger of the left hand comes in as an 'apagado' sometimes,
otherwise its pretty much as he has written it down in the books.'

We're just back in the UK from Spain as Juan has concerts here this week
but it was nice to hear his music being used on the TVE 1 for the
bullfights.

All the best
Helen Martin

Does the title Adiós amigos mean that you intend to leave this foro flamenco?

Kind regards

Tomás

Come on Nigel, give it another chance.
Like Simon says, we live in different cultures. So different sense of humour.
Was it that malignant or vicious.
I don't think so.

Well that's just silly Ratón....
The only time to leave this Forum is when you feel that you can't pick up any more information or nobody can help with niggling questions on technique or queries etc that arise from time to time...
Personally, I wouldn't refuse lessons from Tomatito, because I heard that he had insulted a friend of a friend of mine.
(A bit of an exaggeration...but I hope you see the point!)

I have principles....but not that much!

cheers

Ron

I have left other (non-flamenco) forums for similar reasons but you will always be welcome here Nigel.

p.s. Anders and me had a nice little cruise in the Mustang this evening. My peghead is beginning to look very impertinent

Nigel,

Get a grip. There's a forum out there (I call it the 'Dead Flamencos Society' because they think the only good flamenco is a dead flamenco) where several members passionately hate Paco de Lucia and what he's done to the flamenco guitar. They bash him relentlessly whenever they get a chance. They worship Diego del Gastor, so other posters bash DdG just to aggravate the DdG worshippers. Then the insults and death threats start flying, and on and on. My point is - So what? Who cares if somebody doesn't like a guitarist that you like? It sounds as if you know this Juan Martin personally, so it may be a little hard to listen to harsh criticism. The best you can do is hold your ground, defend your position, and ultimately agree to disagree. I think leaving the forum over a disagreement about personal taste is a bit extreme.

Stick around, every once in a while somebody posts something interesting, and you wouldn't want to miss that , would you?

Phil

I have to agree with most of what was said in this thread so far. I'm a JM fan, and if his videos are any indication of his actual demeanor, then he could be the nicest guy you'll ever meet.

I was going to upload a video of me playing one of JM's rumbas, just to balance the negative Karma around here lately. But, such is my response to negative karma, balance it with good.

flyeogh I am sorry to hear this truly , i mean i might not like his music but i like everyone here so i dont understand.

I see you have loyalty for JM but where is your loyalty for this place ? for us ? because over the time u been here this people have been you mates.

U gonna live them because I dont like Juans music ? thats silly

If i left everytime someone insulted the things i like i would have been gonne a long long time, i admit the disscussion got alot more intense then anticipated but we have been in this situation many times and returned to normal, thats what makes this place great.

And for the last time I DO NOT HATE J M ,, absolutley not, I do not hate one single person out there, and i do have respect for the guy and what he has done for flamenco.

I hope u reconsider mate because we not bad people here we just have different taste thats all, no matter where u go ul never find a group like ours.

And Ps. this place will never ever take a turn for the worst we will all make sure of that is places that cant talk about stuff like this and still return to normal after that cant survive.
Places where people form litlle groups withing groups ( i hate that) and only talk to certain people because of theyr taste and ignore others and start turning on eachother and keep grudges long after the argument finished, this are the places that are going down.

Id like to think anyone has a voice here no matter the level or the taste.

This reminds me of a day my mother said flamenco was crap and my playing sucked... you just can't take this sort of things in a personal perspective because they don't have anything to do with you and your values as a person.
It's nice to have your own idols and things you like to do on your own but just because someone doesn't share an opinion with you doesn't mean you have to lost all contact with that person...I certainly love my mother and respect her, despite of the fact that we have opposed personalities and opinions. I Hope you reconsider your position because it's not very healthy to take things that personal.
Have a good one.

Carlos

Take a breather and come back Nigel, thats what I do when I get fed up with forums for whatever reason.

I agree with you that the whole JM thing went from dumb to dumber, but hey that's the Internet.

Far too much GOOD stuff around here to leave IMO.

I hope he didnt meant my humor from time to time. In general I try to be serious and fair. But complete without humor it would be boring, too. Too much of that it worse, too. I dont know what went on in the Juan Martin threat coz I didnt really read it.

If he wanna go,... ok thats sad but life is allways so bad, no.

All the best to flyeogh, if you come back you are welcome.

Yeah, just have a break and come back later as another member said. I believe the forum has a lot to offer everyone, including yourself. Sure, there are some differences in opinion sometimes, but thats what makes us human. I think the benefits outweigh the negative aspects, and from what I've seen and heard, the guys on this foro are a lot more friendly and respectful than many others. It would be a shame to see you go... If it weren't for you I may have never met Steve Homes!

Cheers,

James

Hey, don't let such an impersonal thing make you leave something which has helped you improved! If somebody had said something about your mother, I'd understand.

It's like anywhere you go among people - ignore what you don't like, stick with people who are good for you, if there's a fight you stick up for yourself and try to work it out.

Not all of us are so bad, either!

Hi Nigel

One thing I´ve learnt during some years of flamenco forumming is to never read these kind of threads where someone want to say some player is god or crap. It´s just waste of. And I´m like you. I have better things to do.
BUT.... there are so many other very good and interesting discussions going on, so I really hope that you´ll be back soon.

I´m not a JM fan, but he plays flamenco, a music I like and he´s has been a major influence for so many beginners and other players, that I respect him as I do ALL other players.
