Slo-Play

From The Mastery of Music by Barry Green:

"Paul McCandless said Leon Goosens once told him it was most import to eliminate the garbage between the notes so there is no noise... when you increase your tempo, you may find you're speeding up the notes themselves, but not necessarily the transitions between them. This means that any lack of clarity in your transitions is occupying a greater and greater percentage of your total playing time--and as computer scientists would say, your signal-to-noise ratio is going way down."

That's so true Mike...
Whenever you hear the good professional players, there is never any "garbage" inbetween the notes...all the noises of fumbling and reaching and just making it etc like most of us do.
Good tip and something else (amongst a zillion other things) to look out for.
This guitar thing ain't easy...that's for sure!

cheers

Ron

Great point. That sounds like a great book.

That noise gives off the feeling of "effort" and
even "exertion".
I agree, this takes something away from the music.
Its so easy to become numb to the garbage noise.
You have to be very detailed in your practicing.

Think of the way a camera see's something. It doesnt discriminate.
It doesnt choose a single thing within the frame to focus or not focus on, it see's everything equally.

This is how we have to hear the guitar when we practice.
