Duende, I and a handfull of other users have been excited about an idea of having a thread for each Technique vith videos uploaded by members of exercises, falsetas, the idea is for us to share our ideas and prespectives, etc.

Henrik and I started it, this is the idea
: http://www.foroflamenco.com/tm.asp?m=27518&p=1&tmode=1&smode=1

I got a litlle bit too excited and uploaded alot too quic but I wanna know what everyone thinks of it, because if you guys are not into it, and are not gonna contribuite yourselfs to, theres no point doing it.

So please just vote or let me know if you think its useless or a good idea or whatever, i just dont wanna get myself too excited about it spend days doing videos and realise that only a handfull of us are into this idea, and the thread will fade away at the back of the Forum somewhere.

We not using the Tab section that much anymore because of copyright issues, the only thing is used for is to make requests, ( u can make tab requests anywhere, and its probably a good idea not to have it anymore cause it just puts Simons site at risk, mibe we could replace that section with a technique section ?)
I dont speak on the behalf of Simon or anyone else, i just wanted to open this to discussion know for myself what you guys think.

I dont think that we would use more upload space that we allready do for audios because the limit can remain 2 mbs and its no different than just uploading audios, the only difference is that unlike the old audios we upload and fade away at the back of the forum never to be heard again, technique exercise videos will always be there for all the new members and us to discover and practice.

So tell me guys what do you think ?
I never acctualy asked anyone i just did it, but if we gonna keep doing it id like to know what you think ?

Yes I think its a very good idea! Webcams are cheap right. But they dont produce a flowing movie right? I remember the solea por bulerias compas of Flo. His hand was too fast for the camera, no? I will check the prices of the cams today, well.. When there is a good cheap one I´ll buy one. I hope if we start the exercise videos, you let me do some technics, too. I hope you arent so fast that you did all before I bought a camera.

MUHAHA

If Im gonna buy one, it will not be the ceapest.

I used to buy always "cheap" things, but its really better to wait a little and buy something intermediate, than somth unsatisfiying.

I think it's a great idea, but will there be enough heavy weight forum members to contribute. Or is everyone allowed to add posts.
I mean, who decides wether an upload is usefull in this thread. The thread might soon be filled with all kind of unusefull things which will make finding the right thing very difficult.

So maybe there should be levels like easy, intermediate and difficult.

I think it is an excellent idea! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. This could be an invaluable tool for beginners like myself, as well as more accomplished players.

As for the tab section, it would be much more useful if it were catagorized under various palos.

Its not about that koella , its not about fat guitarists besides i dont belive there one guitarist here who considers himself a heavy weight, there are many brilliant players here and i hope they all jump in and remember what it was like when they started out and needed some guidance but i leave it all up to them. From what i have seen in the past they have all been pretty generous with advice and guidance for everyone no matter the level.

Even if its just newstarters trading exercises and prespectives you still have something better then what you have right now.

Koella noone decides who puts stuff up and who doesnt, is for everyone if you have a good exercise from a book or learned from someone and you think it will help us then by all means upload it. Il leave it up to your good judgement.

Yes it will be greate for everybody I belive that anyone could teach you something. I am looking foward to new ideas for myself too.

Doitsujin stop your complaining (its like you're my romanian relatives) and get those exercises ready I love the way you play and i want most of the stuff you do for myself, infact this hole idea is just an excuse for me to get my hands on your exercises

Almost forghot the other best thing about this , is that you can put a face to the name, i just watched Fergusitos video and even tho i seen him before its still nice to see him, kind of makes us feel like real friends seeing echothers faces, its a litlle more personal, i am so bored of this just not knowing most of your faces, all i know is the names, we been here for years, its about time

RE: Please Vote (in reply to Florian

I cant buy one ....but I can borrow one from time to time .

Ofcourse it's a good idea ....i have some exercises of my own,
I say I have some good stuff also....but surely there are people here
with more experience that somehow will criticize my enthuziasm.

Anyway,this will help me a lot ...

I am specifically interested in rhytm and remates ...in any palos.
I usually hate that i cant get right rhytm in tangos or bulerias or whatever
like the pro do it .For example i can play tangos ...but I do stupid rhytm cause
i dont know much , and all the beginner books ...show just a simple 4/4.
I'll have some patience.

I'm in...cool stuff.

Somehow i dont think it's just for newbies(though i am one),I think
if u can do bulerias rhytm like tomatito ...falsetas learning will be much more
easy in a way to learn(i have to be able to improvise a little in rhytm ...so
that u can be more relaxed when doing rhytm and not that concentrated
like u are when u do a falseta).

Ok, my thoughts:

I think the video thing generally is very useful, its good to see you guys do your stuff and it would be helpful if if clips were easier to find, though any kind of classification system will have its problems. I'm already confused by all these PICADO-PICADO-PICADO-Florian-Solea type theads

Personally I would find it more useful to have material grouped by Palo. At the moment I am trying to find Tangos material that I like and can play, for example, and it would be nice to have all examples under one thread, rather than wade through a Picado thread looking for anything Tangos-related, know what I mean?

Bear in mind only a very few people here have cameras. I have one, though I haven't had much time to play with it yet due to other commitments. The videos I have made look like they were shot in a closet . The sound is even worse - like an old 78rpm record thats been put through the washing machine (if I use the camera mic), but I am making headway using an external mic and syncing up.

Anyway, I am working on this and hope to get out of the closet soon (joke for Florian) with something half watchable.

And after all the mince pies, chocolate, peanuts and beer over the last few weeks, my weight should now be heavy enough.

Hey i am not gay !

Ps i just posted a Paco de lucia tangos falseta, (its a exercise picado orientated, but its pretty cool as a falseta too) i dont know your taste.

Your weight is always more then sufficient for me buddy

I know Jon but we just started it and we had to start somewhere, then it became really obvious that we gonna need more structure on this and cant do it efficiantly without Simons help and everyone elses help cause i dont wanna upload my exercises to only have my exercises there i wanna learn something from you and other users too.
thats why i was suggesting replacing the Tab section.

if space is a problem for Simon, there are free places on the web where u can upload stuff
eg:http://rapidshare.de

everyone can just use those, as long as we get the thread title dedicated to this

rapidshare has a limitation of two downloads per hour.

megaupload.de has no limitations.

Besides, I would find it better to categorize it in some way. Im already confused now.

And the most important, there should be one thread with only audio/video and no discussions, so its easier to find somthing.

Either you make Beginner, intermediate, "pro" or you do it via palos. May be also helpful to divide falseta and compas, since at the moment Im not very interested in falsetas for example... and others might be not interested in compas...

How about this?

PALO/TECHNIC/NIVEL...FORM/TECHNIQUE/LEVEL/AUTHOR

Where palo/form is for example solea, technique is the main thing being focused on, and level is how many years you need to play it. For example, the very simplest level would be 1, and many of Paco's falsetas might be 10. I know it's very subjective but at least it gives an idea.

You could use that for the heading, and then we could easily look through things to see what we are lookign for.

Sounds good Miguel!

So 10 is Paco, thats clear LOL !

But how to define level 1 ? Year(s)? Hm... dont know.

Maybe it could be compas + basic, slow strokes with basic chords ?

Hi Amigos,
This idea of having a palo specific thread is great, but the truth of the matter is, that good posts of technique etc are accompanied by subsequent posts like..
"Really good stuff man, what kind of guitar do you play?"
"Oh I play a 1998 Raimudo"
"Like how much does that guitar cost?"
"I'll link the site here..."
"Cool...I play a Burguet student model that I bought in Madrid"
"Madrid?....I was there last year. Did you ever visit.....?"
"Yeah, cool place....I believe the guy is from Cadiz."
"The best Alegrias I ever heard was in this club called.....in Cadiz...have you been there?"
"Not yet, but hoping to do next summer...by the way...what kind of strings do you use and what recording program and EQ did you use on your upload?"
etc..etc....

Now, Ladies and Gentlemen....If you think either I or Simon have the time to take all the little relavant bits of video/audio didactic stuff out of that and place it into a nice tight little folder called " Soleares", you've got another think coming.

Just use "search" like everybody else!

(Unless someone wants to take on the job of Duty Administrator for that job?)

cheers

Ron

If we start building a exercise-faq we have to structure it well. I mean it would be very hard to scroll down every comment for example of this threat here to find a link which somebody posted. So we need a clear list where you can see a small explenation by the player and where you find the download link. I hope its possible for the admins..

Ron, yes thats what I also mentioned, that there should be no discussion in those threads.

And I also think most members are mature enough to follow that rule.

Your suggestion with "search" is a bit off, since its not about finding some specific song but coordinate the stuff that will be uploaded. Besides, when typing "bulerias" it could find a thread with a tango, but where the word bulerias has been mentioned a lot.

MIguels example is just as practical and uncomplicated as it can be.

Huh? Simon and you dont have to do anything or anything great time-consuming. Maybe make some sticky threads, but it may be also not necessary, either.

There are basically NO admins here....
Simon is the guy with the IT knowledge and a passion for Flamenco who set up the site as a home for the stranded people when Flamenco-Teacher closed down 'cos Dimitri threw a wobbly.
The founding principles of this site was that nobody "owned" it, not even Simon.
It was the sum total of it's contributors.
At the foundation of this Forum, Simon maintained that if he ever got fed up of running it, the Forum would be passed on to someone else.
That was the BIG philosophical difference between this and all the other Flamenco sites!
If you would like to see some changes to the site to make it the best Flamenco guitar site on the Web, then we need some help.
If you would like to monitor a "palo only" section and really take the time and care to keep it in order...then sign up here .........................

Honestly...we need more Duty Administrators here!

This is YOUR Forum!

cheers

This isn't that hard, guys. Just make a new thread for each video, and label it, according to a system, perhaps like the one I suggested. Whoever wants to comment on it would be fine. If we want, maybe we can get a new category for it (if Simon doesn't mind implementing it).

RE: Please Vote (in reply to Florian

i cant promise a thing ,but i'm graduating Automatics and Computers(with the
will of God)
I know some php and i'll know some jsp.Asp i dont intend to learn, but still
wait me to get me a job ..so that i'll have some free time. After that,i'll offer to help
if u want me too and if u'll trust me.

look..i dont really am into computers i'll do whatever to live ,so i'm not that pasionate when
comes to computers.
But rafa did managed to do it on PDL's forum ....also this kedada files, have u seen how
much hdd space was needed for them? The solution exists and wouldnt be that pesimistic
about it.But i think this should be an effort to see if we can be that organized.

Phrygus had this good idea ,only files with tab ...no posts. There are many ideas, put it all
on a free site, just the html ...I can do that(but cant promise I'll do it tomorrow),and
the site to contain only links to other site where we actually upload the stuff.
The big problem is the one with hdd free space ,for a long time..I mean if the file
is beeing erased in one week ,tough luck.Anyway, i dont know if we'll find a free one...
but we have to find the one that gives the maximum for free.I'll do the little
site just to post the links(the post's about the files will still remain on foro flamenco).
But cant promise tomorrow.

[crazy idea]
look,i have super crazy one.Lets say we have a GMAIL account. We setup 10
new accounts (that are free) like flamencoforo1,flamencoforo2......flamencoforo10.
We all know the password for flamencoforo7 lets say ,the other passwords will be
known only by ...someone that we decide. That flamencoforo7 is the current one
for lets say 3 months, after that we move to flamencoforo8 account(and ofcourse
flamencoforo7 will have a new password)

How do we upload?Simple ,just send it as an attachement in a message to YOU(by
you i mean ,u "flamencoforo7".

I hope u got the idea. Now what's cool about this .Gmail offers 2GB of free space, for
every user...and the single limitation is the atachement that has to be no bigger than
10MB(but here the max is 2MB, so cheers to google).

Just looked i have 98 invitations left , so i can set up enough accounts to hold me for
a long time.

LOOK the main issue with gmail idea is that ,we got to trust ourselves that we can manipulate an email account and not erase by accident files(or because we're evil).

Gee,i have 98 invitations left .....how much is 2*98=196GB ...will that be enough.

We also have to look a little to find out if gmail will have a problem with us doing this,
though i cant see why gmail will not me want me to give my email password to anybody.
it's my password....i can give it away.
[/crazy idea]

ok,I recognize ...heavy drinker idea.

look ,someone has to have all the passwords for the other non-curent gmail accounts.
this is because ...this is for ever, and u dont want someone to erase some files
from two years ago...imagine,u'll say "hey i remember two years it was a falseta like..."
.then u email the admin ....[.by the way there should two admins or three, cause if one
dies and forgtes to tell the passoword(sorry ,sometimes i'm just crazy)] and he'll give
u the password,if u are a trusty man ...ot just give u the file.

ok,this is the centralized aproach....where we have it all in one place.

there is another aproach.....but whatever,u wont read my post anyway

Hey I am glad to see us discussing this

my idea was , One big section

TECHNIQUE and PALOS

once u click on that 2 threads :

TECHNIQUE,PALOS

the rest of the titles we can do ourselfs as they come up, i mean its no point predeciding what we gonna cover when this is a long term kind of thing.

Whomever uploads the first Picado exercise will name the Thread " PICADO"
whomever replies it will be PICADO -Solea exercise- Henrik next one has the option of changing the detail of the title PICADO - Alegria -Miguel etc..

and so on.

I mean theres a million things e could do better and we can learn and do it as e go, but the more complicated we make it the longher its gonna take.

I am cool with that i was just trying to be practical with space and whatever, i mean there are alot of exercises , I alone have about 15 good ones, thats 1 page and a half of just me.

nothing wrong wth discussing it under the same thread, there will be those exercises that noone will talk about or need to talk about because of its nature.

but i am easy , we get better at it as e go along, we can change and do stuff as we learn better what works and what dosent.

Ron can we do anything about anything now or do we wait for Simon to get back?
