One thing is don't for any reason go to a horrid place called Patio Andaluz. It is the worst restaurant/tablao I've ever been to, and it's horribly expensive. They probably just sucker Americans into going there, but make sure you avoid it. If they take you there, demand to be taken back home!

There is a place called "los tarrantos" in a square off the Ramblas. I don't know if it's any good now, but when I was there there was a huge group of five beautiful female dancers (so beautiful and skilled I would have married any of them), a male dancer, three guitarists, and two singers. I went two nights. The second night I show up in a new italian suit at about ten pm. I'm the only one in the place and they do a set just for me. It was like seeing the Stones in a private show. Knocked me out! I would definately check it out. Also picked up some good records at el corte ingles and some nice castenets at some small shop. Not a great place for flamenco, but it's there. I think I might have been to the place Miguel wrote about too, if it's on the Ramblas. I agree with him -it was a tourist trap.

No, it wasn't on Las Ramblas. Actually we bought tickets, through our hotel, for a show on Las Ramblas that was recommended. Our concierge booked the tickets and called the cab. The cab took us, and within several minutes we were pretty sure we weren't going to Last Ramblas.

Obviously our concierge must have gotten some kind of kickback for booking us to a show out somewhere else, when we explicitly asked to go to another one.

Don't trust concierges in Spain!

Worth an email perhaps?

Also, try Colin - a member here (Colzo) who lives in Barcelona. He hasn't logged in for a while but you could try sending him one.

Very good!

Athough a Englishman in Amsterdam get little chance to speak Duch I think.

As soon as we smell some accent we go over talking in english i think.

Hi All,

Went for the christmas holliday to Barcelona, find two things worth wile.

One is a very tiny shop called Flamenco with flamenco stuff, books video, cajon etc.
Not so much, but worth while to take a look.
But the fun of this shop is, that in the back is a curtain, and behind the curtain they made a litte place to give very small performings.
No tourists!
I asked the owner, and he told me there where performings on tuesday wednesday thursday friday and saturday.
entrance 10 euro, one drink free.
The performers are from the old gipsy shantytown of Somorrosto that was in the past between Barcelona and the Cemetery of Pueblo Nuevo.
I was invited for a frendsconcert, the performing was mediair, but the ambiance was very nice, and not comercial.
the adres is: Marques de Barbera 6
If you walk on the Rambla, it is the street beside the gran teatre del Liceu
called Calle Union, walk in the street, and you see it at your right hand.
( The name of the street chaince in marques de barbera)

Second thing that might be of interest, is a guitar builder in the Barrio Gothico
There is a guitar builder, not so good, he would not believe there are good blanca's,
But worth while to visit , and get some guitar shot
the adres is:
Jean-Pierre Sardin
Carrer Regomir,41
