I've been telling everyone at work that I'm smarter than them. Now I have proof!
hahaha

A lot of this has been known for a while, I know someone who is an occupational therapist for children and has been trying to push music and instruments as therapy for the last year or so since I brought the idea up to them and showed them a couple studies. Now they know more about it then I ever did. Most kids parents are pretty receptive to it. They have one kid who is a complete psycho, 6 years old and talks about murdering his brother and liking to see people get hurt etc... When they brought the idea of music therapy up to the parents they said "music is unnecessary and a waste of time.". Initially I thought the kid was just born bad but after hearing about the parents respond like that I can't help but wonder if it's not due to the way he's being raised........

I have always been sceptical to people who consider music a waste of time. They can't have their priorities straight, even for their child.

Interesting video, music need to play a bigger role in our lives. The whole world would benefit from it

From what point on are you considered to be a "musician" ?
We don't really know if the dilettante shows the same effect as the pro...

At least my brain doesn't seem to ...

I'm sure it's a sliding scale. The better you are the more it does for you. There plenty of overpaid "professional musicians" on the radio who aren't even half as proficient as most the amateurs here.

A double bass playing friend of mine wrote about his experience from 'troubled' youth and put them into drumming workshops
Using percussion as a metaphor for anger

There is employment in our hospitals here for musicians
An Arts in Health program

They offer everything from Tibetan bowls to chapman stick to solo guitar
And visual arts

At the age of 53, for me , it certainly is a way of keeping memory and finer motor skills in check
Greater attention to detail
More sensitive to volume and aural pollution
Along with a nagging depression that things aren't what they used to be

I guess the criteria of a musician is simply one who plays music
Some make the most beautiful sounds others sound like a swarm of flies
At least there's a choice there

I've had to endure a lot of my kids music
They also endured alot more of mine

Truth is many don't care for music
Or understand the need to play and/or'listen' to music
Some prefer a heavy marketed chant wrapped like a chocolate bar
Somehow it just makes it more precious

It certainly has enormous mental and physical health benefits
I also figure it could achieve the opposite
