Autumn Flamenco Festival Granada

Its always like this in Granada, the press release for the flamenco festival went out today, a Sunday, and the festival starts, yes tonight. This year it has new management but nothing seems to have changed. I wish the could get it together and make a success out of this festival, instead of everything being last minute and slap dash. I wonder how they will get an audience. Festival Flamenco del Otono. Sunday 4 de diciembre. 20.00h - Teatro Isabel la Católica MANUEL LIÑAN Y SU COMPAÑIA FLAMENCA A great local dancer who moved to Madrid Monday 5 de diciembre - 21:30 - Teatro Isabel la Católica Conchi Heredia, La Nitra, Tablao Flamenco Albayzin The press handout says this will be a celebration of the Zambra Granadina, all of Granada's great singers including Charico. I'd go to this. Tuesday 6 de diciembre - 21:30 - Teatro Isabel la Católica Joaquín Grilo y su Compañia Flamenca Another respected dancer Weds 7 de diciembre 21:30 - Teatro Isabel la Católica Antonio el Nitro, El Parrón, David Carmona y al Baile Espectáculo de “Ivan Vargas y Juan Andrés Maya” These are two Granadino dancers with our friend Jaime el Parron singing but we dont rate the guitarist that much, a young lad whose father seems to get him onto every show he can. Thursday 8 de diciembre - 21:30 - Teatro Isabel la Católica Duquende, Compañía Flamenca Alhucema Dirección artística: Antonio Vallejo This was Paco de Lucias singer !! Dont know who the guitarist is but this show should be the highlight of the festival. Friday 9 de diciembre 21:30 - Teatro Isabel la Católica Melchor de Córdoba, Juan Pinilla, Niño Osuna (a la guitarra, Luis Mariano) Cía. Flamenca Susana Lupiáñez 'La Lupi'. Dir. músical Curro de María These are good local artists but if you only got to one show I would not choose this one. Sábado 10 de diciembre 21:30 - Teatro Isabel la Católica Enrique Morente The great Morente, almost worshipped in Granada closes the festival. 23:30 -Trasnoche Flamenco Alba Heredia y Familia Maya La Chumbera (Auditorio) This place is up in the Sacromonte and worth going for that alone. Entradas: Taquilla del Teatro Isabel la Católica (958 222907)

Hi Kate I saw posters a week ago in Granada and went directly to buy some tickets. Was told that everything was sold out and that it had been so for a while. How can that be??? As usual, flamenco shows in Granada sucks

quote:
ORIGINAL: Escribano With all the tourists and an International airport, when are they going to do something about it? Kate, do you have any contacts at the Ayunta or Junta? Simon surely you have been here long enough to see how the system works or doesn't work would be more correct. For example have you seen any international advertising for the Ski resort, either by the resort itself or the local government ? My theory is that the resort has not given the right backhanders to the right people to secure a Government advertising budget. When H worked for a TV company here the budget would lose around 40% in order to give it to the person who got them the contract, usually called an 'enchuffe'. Last year there were four promotors/organisers who got all the festival work in Granada, whether it was flamenco or Jazz or whatever. This year there are only three organisers, same festivals , less people to share the money with. The Junta or town council pay for the festivals, so the festivals do not need to actually make money, most ends up in people's pockets. When H worked on the album sponsered by the Junta for Lorca's Centenary ( de Granada a la Luna ) they made a thousand copies and threw a big party. When the CDs ran out and distributors wanted more they had no budget to make any, so no more copies but that was fine as no-one was making money from selling the copies anyway. The Arts council here, and places seem to be handed down from father to son, is made up of a guy who owns a recording company, another who owns a studio, one who hires out pianos and so on. So when they organise an event and budget, they all vote in agreement and the guy with the recording studio gets to record it, the other guy hires them the piano, another releases the recording etc etc. When I organised the tour for the kids from Taller de Compás in N America I did the rounds of all the government institutions etc begging for some money to help them, of course no-one wanted to give us money because there was nothing for them to do and no way they could justify putting their hands in the kitty. So no money. I have seen them close ranks and keep their hands firmly on any available funding. They control everything. And now they take me out and shoot me ( Its been done before) Kate

Welcome to Spain. That's the way it is. Anyone wants to discuss illegal construction etc ? PS. All the empty seats are because the tickets are given away to insiders.
