Argentine Composer and Musician Edua...

This morning's Washington Post has a long, effusive obituary announcing the death of the noted Argentine composer and musician Eduardo Falu at the age of 90. Eduardo Falu was a well-known composer and guitarist who was a master of both Argentine folk music and classical technique. He performed all over the world, including Japan where, according to the Post obituary, he performed more than 200 times.

Falu set to music many poems by Latin American poets, including some poems by Jorge Luis Borges, whose poetry and short stories are amazing gems to read. (If I had one book to take while alone on a desert island it would be the complete collection of Borges's short stories and poetry.)

It got me to thinking of how much culture Argentina has contributed to the world. The composer and musician Eduardo Falu, the great literary genius Jorge Luis Borges, the epic poem "Martin Fierro" by Jose Hernandez, another great poem "La Leyenda del Parron" (in some versions "La Leyenda del Mohon") which is by an Uruguayan poet but is closely associated with Argentina, the tango, and much more.

Cheers,

Bill

Nooooooo, very lame. I had just started playing around with Trago de Sombra. Very sad, at least he lived a full life....

A very fine guitarist with a beutifull voice....seen him twice.
Once together with Paco Peña and once Solo.
Lovely music.
My late mother was fond of him too......maybe he can play a tune for her now....
