Solea routine for my daughter

Hi , can anyone lead me in the right direction for a simple solea dance routine for my eight year old daughter . We are going to a surfing competition in late september and they hold a talent night for fun . She has just taken an interest in dance . This is her surfing .

Sorry, no solea routine, but I did want to congratulate you on your daughters talent. I grew up seeing surfers on nearly a daily basis and I can't recall any 8 year olds doing all that. Olé to that surfing!

That's awsome. Great wave for her. I taught my daughter to surf a year ago, but she's 18 now. I tried to teach her when she was younger but she wasn't into it. It didn't help that the water is pretty cold here. I took her on a surf trip to costa rica in feb this year. We had a blast. Your daughter is going to be a great surfer if she keeps it up. For her size, that wave is solid. Wish we had better quality waves here.

Any beginner dance classes near? It'd be pretty hard to pick up a solea without some training. Tangos might be better.

Thx for the comments , yes we are blessed with good weather and waves here , but we are a very long way from anyone that can teach flamenco . Carly is very exceptional in the surf , there are only a handful of girls doing what she is for her age . Anyway thx again we will find something .

I'll bet ten bucks that if she wears a pretty dress and dances in compas that she'll drive the crowd nuts. (Assuming you sound good, as well!!)

Wow that was impressive! She looks very comfortable and in the groove. You must be very proud.

Solea is probably not the best flamenco dance to start with. The movements are often quite weighted and drawn out. It is a difficult dance. Maybe some simple marking for tangos would be better to start with?

I don't know tangos , but that seems to be the best option . Who can I copy for now ?

These show some basic stuff, but the dancers aren't really sharp. It may be possible for your daughter to pick up some stuff, but I wish I could have found good dancers demonstrating basic stuff. There's plenty of vids showing pros doing their thing....................

Surely it's got to be Rumba.

Poor kid - why send her up to dance flamenco if she's never done it before. Get her some lessons if she's keen. It's not as easy as you guys think it is - just look at these people. Kids like street dance - can't she do that instead? You'd maybe have better luck finding a teacher.

Some tangos moves here.

She just wants to wear a pretty dress and tap her feet on the ground , in nice shoes . I am aware of the skill and dedication it takes to dance flamenco . We will probably just make something up . There are no flamenco dance teachers near us .

So - it's what SHE wants to do, not YOU. That's OK then.

This MIGHT be useful

I have young grandchildren similar age who like to do the same. Kids are brilliant at dancing freely and/or making up their own routines if you give them some stimulating music. I'm still more inclined towards Rumba than tangos - get that beat going!

RE: Solea routine for my daughter (in reply to Kevin James Shanahan

Thank you so much for your care Val . Rumba is very natural and familiar for us . Carly's interest in dance has taken me a little by surprise and at the same time very exciting for me as a guitarist . For me ,teaching her how to surf was very simple and natural, it all fell into place . However I have no expirience with dance . I know she has a love for it , for a little while there was a group doing zumba here and she loved it . We have ordered some tap shoes off ebay and i guess we will just see what happens .
Every summer I see parents push their kids onto waves , only to see them get smashed and come up crying . It kills me to know that that kid will probably never surf again regardless of thier potential . So please if you sense there is a right way to go about learning dance I am completley open and grateful . Question time , are you a dancer .
