Recommended Recordings

I am new to Flamenco and would like to expand my music library.

What artists/albums do you recommend?

Hi el.toro,

What kind of flamenco (or music in general) do you already know and enjoy listening to?

Off the top of my head, try Almoraima by Paco de Lucia for instrumental, or 'Canto' by El Pele and Vicente Amigo for a singer that doesn't burn you arm-hairs off (you need to build up to that).

Some other more mainstream classics are Camaron de la Isla, and Moraito.

Much visited topic for sure, but it's ok to revise a list over time. Here is mine for guitar solo lately, in order by date:

Ramon Montoya complete solo recordings.
Sabicas - flamenco puro
Niño Ricardo- anything you can but most is on guitar compilations
Paco de Lucia-Fantasia flamenca, Siroco
Manolo Sanlucar - Tauromagia
Gerardo Nuñez-Jucal
Vicente Amigo-Vivencias Imaginadas
Tomatito- Paseo de los Castaños
Jesus del Rosario- Sin Tanto
Antonio Rey - Colores del Fuego.

some alternatives:

Rafael Riqueni: Flamenco (attention: this is really just the guitar)
Niño Josele: either Calle Ancha, Niño Josele or both
Moraito, Macanita, Juana del Pipa, D. Agujetas: Mujerez (Morao in best shape)
Los Zambos: Al compás de los Zambos (listen to that everyday and you finally get a sense for compás por bulería)
Varios Artistas: Fiesta Gitana 4 (producciones Naimara, not easy to find. Great fiesta album)
Terremoto Hijo: Cosa Natural
Cañizares: Noches de Imán y Luna
