Guitar which defies gravity

hey, everyone needs a gimmick.......

I'm calling this one La Leoncita.....I hardly ever give them names, it's kinda corny, but sometimes they stick. There is one awesome guitar called The Moth, but I think I cursed by calling it that. I wish I would have named it The Terminator. Yah.

This little Leona is going bye bye on Weds. or Thurs. I'll try to get a sound sample up beginning of the week. It has this raw core of mid rangy b flat goodness that roars. When you play that ringing b flat chord in sigiuriya and return to the A chord when you crop the A bass note, simply roars from within. It also has a lot of treblie goodies and a breathy E bass string that has nice pulsation.

The scale is 650mm, the bracing is five fans with two cut off bars riding high and out towards the edges. The edges are a bit stiff from those cut off bars being "coupled" with the curve of the lower bouts. Even with low action its got a lot of reserve power.

Happy with it, been strung up a day. I will work over the set up and see if I can get a test pilot to record some nice music before it goes to Oregon.

( Before French polishing ) This one has Claro Walnut binding appointments and
Goncalo Alves bridge. The Claro Walnut has a hint of figure in it, enough to catch your eye, but not so much as to make God aware that he's showing off his sparkly woods.

The Claro walnut binding is surprisingly lovely. I'll be doing it again on the next few guitars. It looks like 75% cacao chocolate with finish on it.

Usually make the heel more 'a la Ramirez', but I've been looking at other stuff these days. It goes in cycles.

Here is the bridge before it was totally filed out.

It's Goncalo Alves. The batch of Gancalo Alves I have is really very strong, but light. It has a lot of the feeling of light Brazilian or some very dry light Indian rose wood.
I'm always scouting for bridge woods which have the correct properties even if they are lighter in color.

I will Tom after Sun. I've got some chamber music to play on Sunday night. Actually string orchestra. I joined an amateur string orchestra sponsored by the SFO and we're getting a workshop Sun. night from assistant conductor of the SF Symphony, we get to play in Davies Symphony Hall! We're playing Mozart and Holst.

I think so too Tom....but strangely, if you unfold them from the circle and lay them out in a straight line and look carefully under a microscope, you find they are actually DNA code from another world....(cue scary Twilight Zone music...)
