Two broken strings in same place?

A few days ago I restrung my Castillo negra with Savarez red card HT's.

Within half an hour the high 'E' string broke just below the first fret, while tuning up. Put on another Savarez Red Card 'E' , same size, etc. Few minutes later that one broke while I was actually playing. When putting the two broken strings together, they had both snapped in the exact same place - about midway between the first and second frets? Strange!

I replaced with a Savarez Alliance HT 'E' (as I have no more Red Card treble E's). No further problems.

I very rarely - almost never - experience breakages, and have never had two strings break in the same place, and also within such a short time. I checked the nut and the frets, but no sign of sharp edges.

Anybody have any similar experiences. Are Savarez Red Card trebles prone to erratic breakage? Or did I just get a bad batch? Or what???

The same thing happened to me about a month agò on my old classical guitar (a cheap model - on wich I use savarez ), but broken about very closed to the bridge's saddle; it had never happened before ( more than 35 years!) and I have not yet an explanation.

Your Castillo doesn't like neither HT nor Savarez! And since You don't understand for the first time, it had to tell You twice!

It sounds like you just got a bad batch. To have a string break the same day as you put it on suggests a string defect rather than something wrong with your guitar or playing technique (unless you tuned it half an octave too high or something).
I have only ever known trebles to break with Savarez. I know a lot of flamenco purists rave about Savarez as being the most authentic strings but the reason is because at one time they were about the only brand you could buy in Spain and everyone had no choice but to use them. If you are buying them in Canada then they have to be shipped or flown and who knows how long they have been stored and in what extremes of temperature before they get to you. Modern string production uses better materials, better packaging and higher quality control standards. I am a big fan of U.S. strings for all the above reasons.

Interesting point you make here, Pim. I recall being told by a professional guitar string buyer that a large proportion of the various guitar (and banjo) strings available today are actually manufactured in the D'Addario factory, despite the names on the labels. Anybody know if this is really true? Interesting speculation. . .

Sure does. Yesterday the B string snapped while tuning, and - whaddya know; in the indentical place where the first two had broken - midway between first and second frets. Three treble strings all breaking in the same place! Is this weird or what???

I replaced with a D'Addario compsite B. No problems.

Can I get a rebate frm Savarez for a bad set?
