Sabicas rare Tabs (Here)

I Have a friend I met through a private party I did for the old man named Meril Mattzinger. It was his 90th birthday or something close. I met one of his younger friends who plays Flamenco or did when he was younger.

Anyway he called me yesterday and said he has a flamenco guitarist coming from Europe who is selling A bunch of rare Sabicas Charts for 600.00 bucks. He's trying to get some other people to go in on it and thought I would ask if anyone here is interested in pitching in with me and we can share the charts and the price.

This is no bull so let me know soon. This could be a great opportunity.

If this is an inappropriate post I'm so sorry will take it off. I think it's ok though.

Tell him i have some very nice and rare Juan Martin tabs . I paid 1000 bucks for them . If he is interested we can swap the tabs.

I'm sensing some sarcasm here. You guys should no that these guys have no need for the money and are old Flamenco players, nobody famous but they where very kind to me and saw my interest in Flamenco and have kept in touch with me since I played his b day party. He is only offering to pass this stuff on to people who will use it.

These guys are Rob and Merill who are both 70 and 90 years old come on now.

This is no joke and there are some people here in Utah who are pitching in so if it is worth it you know I'm willing to throw down 100 or less would be nice.
Rob confirmed there validity and usured me this guy is serious.

Isn't Sabicas an important figure that should be remembered and studied. hmmmmm

All the tab ever transcribed in flamenco is worth about 600 bucs.

I don't get it, have I done something wrong. I see no reason why this old guy would want to let these go to waste and hes not trying to rip of Sabicas or anyone else hes passing on a tradition for a fee. I ment no insult to anyone. Of course I wouldn't own them or the copywrite but I would have some important music scores.

Should I deny this anyway because it could be construed as wrong and unfair to Sabicas.

well i know alot of people who wanted to pass on a tradition here and they didnt charge money, like Domenic got the tomatito Encuentro for fro from an old guy who used to play. etc. I gave away many of my books that i dont use anymore to students for free.

but its your money, do whatever u like mate

a litlle fee its fine but 600 bucs, forgive me but its spectacular

if everyone was as generous as him , only rich people could afford to play flamenco

Save $600, and transcrbe SAbicas yourself, not only will you be saving money but you'll be learning flamenco the old fashioned way, as well you'll be training your ear. Compared with PDL and all the new Flamnecos Sabicas's music is relatively easy to transcribe.

Trust me the benefits of transcribing are enormous when it comes down to improving ones musicianship. I totally understand the time saved by simply buying a transcription, but the knowledge gained and that certain feeling one gets after transcribing a piece of music that you love so much is worth it.

We should start some sort of transcription club, come to some sort of consensus to what pieces we would like to play and transcribe them ourselves and share. It would be win win all the way, especially for the ones doing the transcribing. How many times have you transcribed a falsetta and found your self feeling not very confident about a chord or one note. Doubted yourself only to find out later that hey Faucher transcribed it the same way.

Are you in edgar, if so what sabicas piece are dieung to learn?

This may or may not be a scam but the way I see it, offering to pass this stuff on to people who will use it should be free. Or, for a small fee since he has to pay for the copies and what not. For $600 bucks, he'll pass this stuff on to anyone regardless if they use it or not. It's the asking price that people are having the issue with. $600 is highway robbery.

Why not ask him to see it? Maybe it's something Sabicas wrote out himself. Still , it's probably not worth 600.00 I have his autograph and it's probably not worth anything. Barry Bonds, OTOH, is. When Sabicas was at his peak, probably these "Charts" were worth a lot to someone. Maybe that's why these old timers think there worth 600.00 now. In the late 70's -early eighties, the first PdL transciptions sold for 20-30.00 per song, and people were happy to get them. Very few people outside Spain, and maybe not that many inside it, had managed to figure out that music, so it was well worth the money to see how Paco played his Zap, etc. Now it's all free on the net, complete with midi. So unless it's Sabicas writing, which I doubt, it's worth a cup o joe at starbucks.

I think Rain hit the nail on the head - Sabicas is very easy to transcribe. He used simple well known chord positions (that's not to downgrade his music at all, his music is great) and played very clearly.

Well Paul Gamin called me finally. His friend from Europe bought all 87 of Alain Fauchers Sabicas tabs for 1300 bucks. He is selling full sets for 600 bucks. There are a few guitarists here in Utah who are getting a set so I'm getting all 87 transcriptions for 125 dollars. I would be happy to email these to anybody who wants them.

It will be a little longer, We have to get him his money through pay pal but I can't pass this up, make fun if you will but, What a great collection. Now that I now they are Alains tabs, I'm way more interested.
