Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that in pretty much every piece ever written, from the elementary to the complex, there is always one or two measures that are noticably more difficult than the rest of the piece? Sometimes it is timing, sometimes fingering, it is there.

I was reminded of this when I was showing my de la Chica to my guitar teacher. Inside the case was a piece of paper containing the list of pieces I used to play. I said to her "I could play 98% of those". She asked me which ones I could not play. I replied "No, no I could play 98% of all of them".

Yes, there is a small team of composers in Vienna whose job it is write impossible phrases in all keys. These are then circulated to composers worldwide for inclusion in their otherwise easy-to-play compositions in order to maintain their reputations as serious musicians..

Remember though, that this shouldn't be an issue in flamenco, where the concept of a composed piece that's set in stone is something of an anthema. If you can't play that 2%, change it for something you can play! As long as it fits compas-wise, thats all that counts.

I realise the attraction of learning a solo piece you really love, but it would be a mistake to approach flamenco the same way as classical guitar.

That's brilliant, Jon, brilliant. Vienna huh? You've solved an age-old mystery. Now get working on World Peace.

BTW, watched your boys almost beat Everton in the FA Cup. Great game! They deserved to win that one.

Yeah, that would have caused a few upsets...Before the game I predicted 4-1.

World peace is a tough one.

My suggestion for starters would be to forcibly remove a dangerous right wing dictator - someone who is known to have weapons of mass destruction and who has the potential to cause chaos and instability in the world by virtue of their ill-conceived aggressive actions....someone who was not even properly elected in the first place.

Unfortunately our American friends voted him back in.
