Buddy needs advice on a student clas...

A friend is looking for a decent classical guitar for a 12 year old in the UK. Budget is £500 (around $800) new. Any recommendations please?

My best selling classical guitar is the Alhambra 4P. I would have no hesitation in recommending that.

TOP: Solid German Spruce or Solid Red Cedar
SIDES & BACK: Laminated Indian Rosewood
NECK: Mahogany
FINGERBOARD: Ebony
MACHINE HEADS: Gold Plated

This guitar looks good, sounds good, and is exactly in that price range – in the USA. I don't know what its price range would be in England, but might be a little less.

Ramon

agree with that
put quite a few students onto the 4p
same site/video.. as it is an australian dealer...
superior guitar than any new instrument in it's price range

I agree its a good sounding instrument for that price.
It was actually my first guitar I bought when I started with flamenco,...what did I know about flamenco guitars, nothing. Gladly they took it back and started with the 3F.

In a music store here in Eindhoven they sell a lot of Manuel Rodriguez and Salvadors. But I think we are spoiled with our good guitars to give an honest opinion.

There are many brands that have pretty good guitars in that pricerange, Yamaha, Admira, Jose Ortega.
I also think most guitar makers make caassicals too? like Navarro, Anders and such.

There are the guitars from Morgan, wich also are often used in school and such for example. Morgan CG30SE is kind of a better one than that again, and the back of the neck is sort of flatter, considering its for a 12 year old its a bit easier to play, but still fullsize. But it has a microphone system and integrated tuner.

Personally i do like Jose Ortega rosana, even if it is signed by a chinese that probably hasnt done much in the making of it... But it is easy to play and while the sound isnt extremely open and big it is a warm cedar sound. and easy to play as well, with cutaway, keeps in tune though!

Yamahas have a good reputation, I dont know them too well though. but the ones ive tried actually sound pretty good.
Ibanez also has a classical range of guitars that ive never tried but ibanez guitars are in my opinion good in consistency and solid built instruments.

Hope it helps. But maybe they should hit a guitar shop together?

just go in the shop and ask/see what they have.

it's run by and mostly staffed by guitarists, they get in the best guitars they can for the price, after that it depends on the individual instrument and personal preference.

When I worked in a guitar shop in Granada, I sold a lot of classical guitars in that pricerange and to be honest...... Dont expect to much.
I would very much advice your buddy to get a guitar with a cedar soundboard. In that price range, they normally (99%) sounds the best.
The back and sides will be laminates, so it doesnt really matter.

Thanks Anders. He has ordered the Alhambra 4P - cedar soundboard - based on price, the recommendations here and research.
