Use a flamenco guitar for other Lati... 
Is the flamenco guitar an appropriate guitar for other styles of latin music, like salsa and bossa nova?

yes.

even classical music. The distinction of flamenco and classical guitars essentially boils down to how it is used. there are other minute details but ultimately it is a guitar.

yes. i use my ramirez for almost everything...tango/samba/choro/classical pieces...other non flamenco players who have/had use them are luis salinas [jazz/tango], raphael rabello [samba/choro] to name but a few...
