New Challenge (idea): "telephon...

I was toying with an idea, which I recognize as a bit difficult to implement, but worth submitting for consideration:

Four “Telephone” Sevillanas:

Four Teams, randomly organized from those who apply to participate
each following one of four leaders, ideally:
Ricardo
Grisha
Jason
Todk

Step 1: the leaders post a video with the basic Compas, introduction and some guidelines;
Step 2: each participant will compose a couple of measures and pass it on (via tabs and recording) to the next and so on, until the succession of recorded falsetas returns to the leader
Step 3: each leader organizes the falsetas as he deems fit and posts a video
Step 4: [optional] each leader plays the entire group of Sevillanas.

Foro’s judges select:
1. Best Falseta After step 2;
2. Best Sevillana after step 3;
3. Best interpretation of 4 Sevillanas after step 4.

Catch: since all four “leaders” I selected, are reliable and dedicated teachers, we could see this as a “lesson” which those who participate are taking from them. Hence, each would pay for a lesson, and receive from the respective leader, time to review and work on the falsetas.

Thoughts?

here some inspiration:

I think requiring people to "pay" to participate in a challenge sort of creates a barrier of entry...

Munin: I do not disagree –as the membership proved your point quite well recently. But this would be a true “group lesson”. There many members who take lessons, and I reckon this would be an entertaining way to “get them Sevillanas down to a pattern”.

Depending on the interested parties, the price could be negotiated with the “Fantastic 4”.

At_Leo: Thank you for your approval, as always, I am spoiled by your courtesy, which I have nearly come to expect, but never take for granted.

It could be a long term project. But it is just an idea, not as quickly rewarding as learning a falseta and posting it two weeks later (which still is a really good way to shake that learning curve we are here to inflate).
The difference would be that those invaluable comments we typically receive “at the end” of our work, would be available "during" our work.

Ok, here is the first free lesson. Nuñez is NOT playing a "sevillanas".

I am not quite clear on how it works. Is the basic point that participants are COMPOSING a partial sevillanas falseta? If so, it doesn't make much sense to me for sevillanas, as the structure is such that it is, or can have a melody that repeats 3x. There are typically 4 coplas. Perhaps you mean each participant could compose a copla?

Then again I am confused as to what is the teaching part, other than to say the copla works or doesn't work as sevillanas...no need to pay for that! LOL. And then what is the actual challenge part? Like who ever composes the best copla wins?

Perhaps your idea is more for people to compose their own falsetas and add em up into a "piece" of some sort? That would work better for a more open palo such as buleria or tango, etc....

Here is a proper sevillanas but a guitar duo. Based on the styles of composing I would say the 1st and 4th are Paco's and the 2nd and 3rd are Manolo's.

Is the idea to compose one copla for Sevillanas?

Play it for your team leader via a skype lesson and recieve feedback?

Then submit a final video of the copla to be arranged by the team leader?

Then the team leader plays the complete sevillanas resulting in 2 final videos per team, one of the leader playing the complete sevillana and one of the original videos?

Is this how it works?

Ricardo: Sevillanas was only an example, to illustrate my idea, because I was watching that video with Nunez (not palying Sevillanas, however....?)

It could be our dear challenge classic "por bulerias" porque no?

if lessons are free, why not?

KMMI77: Yes that is how it would work, qouting you:

yes, but it could be Bulerias, Solea or anything we agree on, should we ever.

ciao

This is a cool idea.

If it is a Sevillana, the falseta can be similar but different - like the teacher comes up with the theme falseta and the students build on it for variety. They have to learn the falseta and at the same time have to tastefully revise and make it a bit different and interesting.

Or the group solea or bulerias thing. That hasn't been done in a long while. But the difference per GJ idea is that the solea is slowly passed from one person to another to add on to it, and the final version is recorded by one person so all of the stuff about matching submissions and mixing them together is gone. Easy Peasy - except for the guy that has to learn it! But I am sure that is not a big deal for the top guns!

Anyways, I have thrown my hat into the beginner challenge, come what may.
