Soundport in my Santos Hernandez

A few months ago i was asked to help a friend clear out some furniture and junk from a friends garage. Among all the bits of old bike and broken chairs were a couple of broken guitars. I took them home to see if they could be turned into a couple of cheap playable guitars for a student. After a bit of a clean I discovered that one of them was a 1926 Santos Hernandez blanca. Unfortunately it was in terrible condition having been covered by nothing more than a plastic sheet for the last few years. It was covered in dust, cobwebs and bird droppings.
I sent it to Stephen Hill who did a fantastic job of repairing 3 large cracks in the body, changing the frets, straightening the neck and removing the bone golpe plates. I also asked him to fit a sound-port in the body. What an addition! It sounds absolutely fantastic. I was a little dubious about the idea of sound-ports before but now i find myself agreeing with Flo. Im looking forward to upload some video of me playing this guitar. I think even Santos Hernandez would have been impressed with the improvement to his instrument.

soundports are great. All my own guitars from now on will have soundports.

I do of course accept that many clients will prefer to have a guitar without a soundport and I can imagine that most of the guitars that i´ll build in the future will be without one, but I recommend them.
IMO they only give and dont take away anything.

I wish one of my friends would give me a $60,000 guitar. If they did I would definitely drill holes in it, too.

Happy April fools...

I had to sign and date a quite important (to me) legal document today.

I don't know about you folks....but I can't help but feel that writing "01 April" is just inviting misfortune!

Superstition is crazy, but we still have little bits of it here and there somehow...

cheers,

Ron

If you would have said you found the guitar at an estate sale in an old trunk of books and then cut the soundport yourself with a hole saw purchased at a hardware store you might have had a longer run with the fooling.

I was onto you when you said you found the Santos in your own house. Yeah right, I'm going to go get my Andrea Guarneri cello out of the basement and sell it on eBay for 500.00 because I don't know any better. :)
