Where to buy shaped bone saddles? 
hey guys, is the best bet for buying a bone saddle, ebay?
i'm looking for ones that have the top shaped already
so I just have to sand the sides/bottom.. I have no idea how to shape the top where the strings lie on. I want to buy maybe 3-4 to play around with.. so next time I can actually lower the action on my guitars without going to a shop.

I've only seen them being sold as blanks in various sizes. In fact, I've recently bought one but can face the idea of shaping it correctly. Lots of work.

Hopefully one of foro luthiers will chip in...

shaping the top is pretty simple. check it out here:

be sure to use good sandpaper to make the job easier. and be warned, bone can smell pretty bad!

the only way you can mess up is by taking off too much material, so if you don't rush it, it will not be difficult

do it in a well ventilated area

I have tried doing my own saddle a few times, and botched it everytime.

I found a guy in my area who does it now, and its worth spending some money.

I like having 3 different saddles for each of my guitars. Each one is a different height,
and different compensations for different times of the year.
