Huh? What happened!

Yesterday I was playing on my FN fp-ed guitar and all of a sudden I needed to play harder, the sustain was gone, but it sounded amazing, dry as dry-sherry.....
Rasgeados sound like a rasp now, I can beat the hell out of the guitar ....all by all...its all I like.

I've checked the strings but they were not dead, so what happened?

Is this what they call opening-up a guitar?

It could be but it could also be just the angle of you to a wall, carpet head over guitar, door open in a room etc. My guitar sound changes drastically from day to day I think more from positioning in a room than anything else. Hopefully your guitar is sounding better on its own and from better playing.

no, this is called a miracle

hmm, my guess is, you opened-up !

seriously though, i don't think that a guitar suddenly opens up in 1 day. it is a process.

i had such "good" days too. but i guess it has more to do with your own vibe and good mood and physical abilities on that day.
also sudden change of temperature, humidity, etc. could be a factor for a guitar to sound different.

HaHaHa!

I like it!

"Guess what guys?"...."Me head's just opened up...!"

Hey Kozz....I had a guitar once that suddenly had a big change in tone overnight...sounded a bit duller or something.
I couldn't quite work out what it was, except I could hear a little buzz on some notes every now and then.
Futher investigation showed that there was a dirty great crack in one of the internal braces due to the freezing weather!

cheers,

Ron

I bet you've got Kozz pretty worried now!

How did you investigate that? With mirrors?

all my guitars change day to day if the environment changes....one day rainy, one day cold, one day nice, one day hot, etc....especially If I leave it out on the guitar stand or something. Humidity changes and temperture changes can do amazing things to wood very quick. Take your guitar outside and play it then come back inside. Don't try to tune it at all, see what happens....

Heh heh...I was only winding him up..

After I had ruled out everything I could think of, I took off all the strings to try shimming the saddle up a hair.
I thought it would be a good time to give the top a decent clean and polish.... and then I noticed it through the soundhole. Arrrrgh!
It was the first brace you see when you look in towards the bridge.
Completely split and sprung apart...

I pretty much panicked, but the repairer thought it was no big deal.

cheers,

Ron

Thanks guys,
I've noticed differences in sound earlier, but this is a major change, so I thought it had to do with guitar itselves.
It was played 8 months before I bought it and I have it for 2 months now, so it sounded "logical" to me that the guitar would open up....although I still dont know what that actually means. Perhaps it can be only known once experienced, and not by words.

My technique hasn't improved overnight I suppose, that would be great though, it means the hard work is not for nothing.

To exclude everything I just ordered a humidifier / aircleaner, a Boneco 2055D, to make sure the humidity stays around 55%. It was on average 40%, perhaps to low.

I was a little bit worried though reading Rons post.....I'll have to drill in a soundport to check it since I have no dentist-mirror

I beg to differ here, Kozz 'ol chum...

Quite often you get sudden "jumps" in technical ability overnight after practising something for a long time.

I dunno how that happens, but it's like manna from heaven when it does!

(Maybe your brain just gurgles away in the background, processing the stuff and suddenly comes up with a result! .... Like your head 'opens up' )

cheers,

Ron

Maybe your ears just opened up or something fell out. Try to wash them very morning (also behind the ears!) It helps a lot.

Seriously, All my guitars and other instruments sound better sometimes, and it can be quite a sudden thing. I dont know if its always the instrument or the ears, but I like the feeling.

A.D. medication certainly helped to open up my head, but never heard of the site effect that it would improve your technique
If it is technique, than I am more than happy....it feels good anyway.
Never had such an experience before...normally you notice a change, but not like this.

Hahha, I already started to feel like a smelly, mentally disabled, wannebe gitarist with psychoses.... --->
Good to hear that you also experiences the overnight changes....exactly as you say its a great feeling.

After reading those posts it must be a combination of the two, mental experience enhancing the physical or vice versa.

This effect has been studied in depth by Professor Vibe of The Institute of Pure and Applied Vibology, Vibeland and is now a recorded and well established scientific fact.
This is why you should never keep a Conde in a case that once housed a cheap guitar or the vibes will leak out of the Conde and is a total pain to get the vibes back in again.

Mucho trabajo.

cheers,

Ron

but if anybody knows this feeling, he will confirm this is true.

I was just joking MSA...

The whole subject of Vibology DOES explain a lot of things though...

And many folk will confirm and stand by this explanation to the death....

(I just thank God they don't use it in passenger aircraft design and stuff )

cheers,

Ron

BTW An eminent Vibologist*once published a paper saying that Green was the only "true" colour in the Universe.....and that this could be proved easily at home, by plugging in a simple electric bar fire...

"You get the Green light first before the Red, then the Orange...
