Question for old-timers

The two guitarists on the left of this album are Sabas and his brother Diego. Does anyone recognise the third dude?

Isn't that Escudero?

No. Not unless someone’s photoshopped his face.

Looks like it may be Fernando Sirvent, who was house guitarist at Fidel Zabal's nightclub La Zambra in Manhattan in the late '50s-early '60s.

The Sabicas album is dated 1959. When I was on the east coast in the Army in 1962 Sabicas was a frequent participant in after-hours juergas at La Zambra. Sabicas gave the famous Barbero that he recorded "Flamenco Puro" with to Zabal.

Fernando's sister Amor Sirvent owned a Spanish gift shop near Dupont Circle in Washington, DC and had a flamenco dance studio.

The Sirvents were payos, but were well integrated into the flamenco communities of their respective cities.

Looks like Jose Castellon, don't know anything about him though - may be a reletive
of Sabicas? Check the guitarist out at .59

Yeah. I've got to withdraw my vote for Sirvent, and go with Jose Castellon.

that he was Dolores Vargas' husband. Never heard of him before.

Yes, it looks very much like José Castellón. Thanks to both of you.

I see that Dolores’s apellido materno was Batista — I wonder if she was related to Andrés?

Wasn't Sabicas' real name Agustín Castellón.
Wonder if there was a relation?

cheers,

Ron
