It was very frustrating actually,

I read a post in the help section saying that the dimensions and Mb must be exact, That's 195x195 and 30 mb. I have a mac and cropped the photo to 195x 195 in i photo and fiddled with the resolution etc until the photo was 30mb. Hence the purple look,

I then exported the file to my desktop and selected the photo by opening the the avatar upload photo window. Once i selected the photo, the info box said the file was now 32mb and it then started saying file is to large. I had to keep going back in and changing the photo and exporting it again and again. Eventually the photo said 27mb in iphoto but read 29mb in the the upload window. It accepted it and it worked. Maybe there is an easier way. It is very frustrating.
