Manolo de Huelva

Here's a humorous anecdote about Manolo de Huelva. All these years I have never been able to hear a single note of his playing, because as far as I can determine he only cut a few records as accompanist. I found a CD with four cuts of him accompanying Manuel Vallejo. Now Donn Pohren, in "Lives and Legends," stated – rather fatuously I thought – that "little is known of Manolo's tremolo, as he holds this flowery technique in contempt." Okay. I put on the CD, a Malaguena. Manolo's intro is standard, but immediately following the temple, what does Manolo play – a tremolo passage! By the time I stopped laughing my head off at Pohren, the cante was over, and I had to go back to the beginning.

Pohren books have some valuable info if you able to hack through the jungle of opinions he puts in your face. I remember tossing his book across the room at one point in frustration.
