ever had something like this?

Hi All!

Lately my little finger knuckle between the secont joint and the third, gets red and swollen at the outside of my hand.
No pain while playing, but in the morning a little stiff and soure.

When I stop playing for a few days, it nearly goes away, but it comes back again when I play again.

Anybody ever had the same problem?

Peter.

Hi Peter,
If you mean the fretboard hand then yes, I've had the same sort of thing from overpractising. Was quite worrying. It lasted for a few weeks so I just eased off using that finger too much and it went away thankfully!

cheers

Ron

no i haven't but i get it typing (ouch) and it was at a level of severity where it was permanent and keeping me awake, at one stage...

It seems to ease off if i stop using a keyboard, or if i am extra vigilant about tension so obviously same principle for guitar, i am probably more vigilant with the guitar because i dont have any particular desire to be good at typing.

Everyone's different so it might well not be the same thing as me, whatever that is. I went to the doctor and she said "i cant see anything wrong with it" which was typical..

So in other words i dont know either, but i went for the "as soon as you feel pain rest it" approach (ie do something different and if that doesn't work stop for the day and if that doesn't work stop for a few days etc) and thank the lord it seems to be working (it started 2 or 3 years ago) but i am conscious of it now, should it return. I've had the odd twinge with the guitar but only occassional and i just reassess what i am doing ie the issue of applying force instead of backing off and learning the technique. It's your body telling you something, obviously.

Anyway that's just my experience, if it's any use at all....
