If you were lucky enough to catch one of Anita Hawker’s famed Peña Flamencas at Jagz then you may have come across these hugely talented Flamenco Guitarists – and you will want to book your tickets quickly for their return. On their previous two visits – which were sold out within hours - these brothers produced some of the finest music we have heard at Jagz in our 14 years, with Flamenco and Jazz blended perfectly.
Jerónimo Maya is considered one of best in the latest generation of concert flamenco guitarists. He presents a unique project for flamenco guitar, ‘A lo Gitano Jazz’ (Jazz Gipsy style) with his brother Leo de Aurora, where they fuse the music of Flamenco with the Romany musician Django Reinhardt.
The intention of this show is to create and enjoy the moment of two guitarists with different personalities switching their roles at any time. No one has fixed role like one is main guitarist and the other is for rhythm. When one plays solo, the other plays rhythm, or vice versa, to take advantage of each other’s talent, to create together and to reach to the music beyond of our imagination. To do this, you need high level of the musical talent, technique, creativity, a very sophisticated vision, and the courage to go forward without fear. The duo Jerónimo and Leo de Aurora is the perfect pair for this magical experience, and in flamenco, they can truly reach to that level.
