Arte y Pureza Fall U.S. Tour

Greetings to all flamenco lovers... The Seville based flamenco group Arte y Pureza (art and purity) returns to the USA for a fall tour beginning on Sep. 21 of 2007. Tour and Box Office Info can be found below. We hope to see you there! After great success on their 2006 tour (venues including UCSD Mandeville Auditorium, The Ark in Ann Arbor, and the Chicago Flamenco Festival) the group will return with a seven member company led by the legendary singer, dancer Miguel Peña Vargas "El Funi". The company consists of some of Spain's best singers, dancers and guitarists including 2006 accompanist of the year, Antonio Moya on guitar, Cihtli Ocampo (dancer in Tony Gatlif's film "Exiles) , Javier Heredia, Gabriel "Pies Plomo" (son of José de la Tomasa), amongst others. Arte y Pureza is dedicated to the preservation of traditional, pure flamenco from the gypsy neighborhoods of Andalucía. The performance is an incredible display of improvisation and mastery withing the oldest styles of gypsy dance and singing. "El Funi" is a true legend of flamenco. With his trademark white scarf and proud posture he reminds audiences of a gypsy version of the late bolero singer Ibrahim Ferrer. Elegance, rhythmic dominance, and striking personality characterize "El Funi" as he invites his audiences to accompany him on a magic journey through Andalucîa, Spain.
