RE: regions in Spain where flamenco ... (in reply to DavRom

I think it was three years ago when I was staying at a hotel in Triana because the ones on the right bank of the river where full at the beginning of tourist season...making small talk with a cab driver on the way downtown:

"¿Donde se encuentra flamenco puro, aquí en Triana? Prefiero cante...¨

The cab driver named a place and enthused at length.

¨Dicen que por lo común no se encuentra nada mas que sevillanas...¨

¨¡Sí, sí Señor, sevillanas toda la noche!¨

Hi,

I attach a link with the most popular "tablaos" in Madrid with regular performances.

Tablaos Madrid

If you are looking for "sevillanas" go to Sevilla witouht dobut. But "Sevillanas" is not flamenco, is Spanish folk.

I insist, Madrid and Cadiz is the center of flamenco.

I wonder who determined the venues mentioned in the link were "Los mejores 8 tablaos flamencos de Madrid"? It reads like those ads in airline in-flight magazines. You know the ones: "The top ten steak houses in America." "The top ten plastic surgeons in America." etc.

For flamenco, I think one is better sticking to Cadiz, Jerez de la Frontera, and others in Andalucia. Save Madrid for the Prado.

Bill,

Reading your comment, I could be agree with you, but from my point of view there is a mistake on the phrase. Is not the "8 best places...", it's "the ONLY 8 places..." where you can enjoy flamenco ambient. Concert, dinner, etc...

In the other hand, if you look my previous comments, you can see that I spoke about Cadiz and Jerez de la frontera. But Jerez can't offer the variety of concerts than Madrid offers regularly.

Any artist knows that Madrid is Madrid.

Paco de Lucia moved to madrid at eleven age.

Cepero lived in Madrid during 30 years. Now lives on Jerez de la Frontera.

Not knocking sevillanas--one of the first guitar pieces I learned to play was sevillanas-- just agreeing that few Spaniards are into flamenco puro.

Nito,

Are we reading different links? The link in your comment led me to the listing of the eight venues for flamenco, and it is clearly entitled, "Los mejores 8 tablaos flamencos de Madrid." Unless the Real Academia Espanola has upended the Spanish language, I am sure "mejor" still means "best." No?

Bill,

I agree with you, but I can ensure there are no more places than appear in the link.

For that reason, I said that the title should be the only 8 places instead the 8 best places.

Anyway, my intention was only recommend some places to people who are looking for flamenco places.

Seems like you have not been to Cádiz from some time. La cuña de flamenco sí, ahora un desierto

If that is what you call flamenco, we have nothing in common. Tablao flamenco is of no interest to me.

I'm Sorry Morante,

if you don't mind, I would like to know what is your interest regarding flamenco.

I think we have something in common. We are a minority...

So, Mister Mc Carthy, did you forget to take your anti paranoia pills that we agreed on.

Politics in Spain these days is not about left - right, communist, fascist, whatever.
Its about corruption. And since the two old major political parties are extremely corrupt, then different things happen because people are really fed up with the bastards.

Besides that, I agree with Morante: this is not a political forum and IMO post like the above should be deleted by admin. Besides that, its 100% off topic.

Took this in Madrid 2013... But visited again 2014. Close to plaza sol but don't recognize it by photos of the links. What is it called?
As for quality, it is a nice small intimate venue, acoustic only, in basement of a night club type place. Guitarist were mediocre, but singers were good Camaroneros. Dancers were ok, until the fantastic Juan Ramirez appeared last year, (by my good luck?), super high quality. Can't remember the price, I thought like 15E or something and a sangria type thing. Only place with a show on Sunday I thought, and just happened upon it walking off atocha toward Sol. Two shows per night, the pretty dancers stand outside on street handing out card/coupons...so I thought it was gonna be lame but it was not bad at all.
