Kate. I agree with you totally. Haven't commented much on this situation anywhere as it's a bit pointless, but, in being a typical mother La Farruca has IMO, in her desperation, foolishly raised the issue of racism that should have no place in the facts of the case. People will play on this and it could have bad consequences. The facts are plain; Farrujito broke the law by driving carelessly and in doing so, killed a man. That it was accidental isn't in doubt and will affect the rest of his life. It's all down to what the courts see as a fit punishment and, again IMO, the lad would be far better off just saying nothing, letting his remorse be seen by the court and the dead man's family and hoping for some clemency. Nothing will bring back the dead man and his family will be very bitter. Trying to contest the facts in any way will be useless. It's all down to the courts now and the Farruco family will be well aware of this. Public opinion, at the end of the day, will count for nothing. The family's attempts to protect one of their own may come back on them in the long run. I sincerely hope not, but fear this may be what the whole trial hinges on, perjury being not the least concern. The payo/Gypsy reference worries me on this one. It was a bad move because the law shouldn't differentiate between humans. Only the truth is any good in the long run. Jim Morris.
