Heavy Metal in Vietnam

Harold and I just got back from our trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. We stayed with my brother who publishes an English magazine called Asialife.

While there we were in Saigon we were assigned to do write some articles so I thought I'd post them here for anyone interested as they are now online.

First off is the cover story, about music in Vietnam and we got to cover the Goth Metal craze, we went to a wild concert (terrible sound) and met the band afterwards to interview them. They became good friends, tatooed Vietnamese rockers, great guitar players. At the gig the guitarist's little brother got on the drums, only 13 and he rocked.

I wrote the cover story and if you scroll down you'll find the band interview. Harold did a CD review but I cant find that online yet. Harold also bought a guitar and his advenutes on Guitar street will appear in next month's issue. He played at the magazine launch party which was great fun. I guess the pictures from that will come out in next month's issue as well.

We also did an interview with a young show shine kid rescued from the streets by the Koto project.

We had a great time and plan to go back next year and do some recording there and set up some sound and production workshops.

Cambodia was another world and I was amazed to see how much the Kymer looked like Gitanos. Kept seeing faces I knew !! I have over a thousand pictures but will post some when I have them sorted out.

Kate
