RE: Ricardo's CD Finally available (in reply to Ricardo

I got mine too, thanks Ramin..

What can i say??....i am speechless...

It is in my CD player since 2 days and playing non stop!
So many nice compositions and ideas, such a great playing and super quality recording.

I really enjoyed all pieces.

I liked it how you used some of the Rondena ideas from "Sanlucar" in your
Bulerias por Rondena "El Escritorio".
And hey...why didnt you call "Mi Capita de Jerez" only Tanguillo?
I would call it Granaina y Tanguillo which btw has a very haunting Granaina part.

The Alegrias is breath taking and one of my favourites.
Would you mind to tab the intro ( the first 30 seconds.....0:00 to 0:31 ) for me ??
I really would like to learn this sequence please.

Ricardo, you really did a great job. And you definately have your own distinctive and
unique style of playing (both technically and emotionally)
which is very difficult to achieve nowadays in the flamenco guitar world.

@Todd..really really great recording job dude. Honestly i dont exaggerate if i say
that i couldnt hear any difference comparing to some
other CDs which has been recorded in 100000$ Studios.
Crystal clear....carefully chosen effects (and not too much), perfectly mastered.

I am proud of you guys. You really deserve to sell thousends of copies of this CD.
For me it is at the same level of recordings from the Maestros like Paco and Gerardo.

Good luck.

Wow, I could have got an autographed version Ramin? hehe
Thanks, I got mine quick too.

Ricardo, amazing album man. I'm totally blown away. Top notch & inspirational playing. I love all the selections, but would have to agree about that alegrias; simply amazing. I recognized the main theme of that rumba too, from that video you posted on here a while back. Wow I wish I lived near DC so I could inquire about lessons.

And I guess ToddK recorded it? I was looking at the credits for his mame; I'll look again. But yes! excellent recording as well. I agree that it is on par with some of Nunez, Paco albums I've heard.

Great stuff!
Mark

Thanks guys! Yeah Todd did a great job. Pretty much when I sat down and started tuning, he was getting the sound I wanted in the head phones right off the bat. He knows what he is doing for sure!

The tanguillo has a bit of Granaina as the intro. I guess I was too lazy to name it since I am just using it like an intro. Originally that intro was part of a "Nana" I made for a dance show. The phrasing is loosely in 4, where as most true granaina is loose phrases in 3. But I use it for granaina too. I heard Juan Habichuela do a tremolo in 4 for granaina also.

About tabs, I just finished the Rumba (it was requested a lot on youtube and in emails), so I am thinking to do them all eventually. It will be on Flamenco teacher for sale. Any other requests let me know. I have already requests for bulerias and solxbul, so those are next I think.

Just the intro for alegrias, the compas part is tricky, but at first it is libre. Here are the notes:

E--------------------------------0------------------------------
B-4-5-7(sl)9----------------4-----4-5-7--------------7--5--
G--------------------------6--------------------------4-----4--
D-----------------------7--------------------------4--------6--
A--------------------0---------------------------6----------4--
E-----------------------------------------------4---------------

E----------------------------------2----------------0--repeat
B-2-4-5------------------5--5-------2-2(sl)4----4--
G----------------------2------4--------------------5--
D-------------------2---------4--------------------4--
A----------------4------------2------------------------
E-------------2-----------------------------------------

Last chord is:
E--0--
B--7--
G--8--
D--6--
A--7--
E--0--

You are going to have to wait for me to do the whole thing for the proper compas.

Ricardo

OMG, and I thought I was just aimlessly hounding you. You were actually listening? Sweeet! I can't wait. I loved that rumba since the first time I heard it. Thanks for you generosity!

Ricardo did you use different guitars to record the different pieces? My ear says yes, but perhaps I am wrong. Care to share? My fav track is the Sol por Bul. Oh and the falseta at the beginning of the Tanguillos is awesome.

Congrats again, phenomenal playing - I can only assume you were born with a guitar in hand!!

Thanks! I used only one guitar for all actually. Thing is, for some tunes I actually tracked two songs in one day. What I notice happen is the second piece, which ever it happened to be, the bass strings die a little (when I play with some intensity, I kill the strings faster for some reason), so the guitar sounds a bit warmer, but I did not want to change the EQ because of that. So it might seem that I am using a different guitar for some pieces, but really you can blame that on the strings.

Thanks to Sebastian too!

Ricardo

RE: Ricardo's CD Finally available (in reply to Arash

Just one question Ricardo.

I realized that there is absolutely no Cajon playing in the CD (specially in the 3 Bulerias pieces).

Is there a special reason for that?
Following reasons came to my mind:
- you dont like Cajon
- there was no cajon player around who could keep up with you and the level you like him to have

ricardo,

got the cd last week and man you really have your own proprio sello, i really like the solea por buleria, and finally after listening to the clearer version on the cd (as compared to the video) im nearly 90% done on that pulgar scale falseta you did.

Cant wait for the next cd.

best

I could have had a couple of guys play on it. I like cajon, but for this recording I just wanted palmas, as stripped down as possible. Actually I was thinking about having cajon instead of palmas for one buleria, or both, but it was hard enough to coordinate getting MYSELF in the studio, much less others. I also was thinking about having cante but again I could not find a time to get it in. Luckily I was able to get the dancer to come in, and at the same time the palmeros/jaleos, and he could do takes alone. For cante and cajon I would need to do some live takes with guitar, unless I just wanted a loop percussion(wouldn't want that inotherwords) But after all, I don't regret anything, this is mainly a guitar focused album, and I really wanted to get it out after all.

WAY too late for that guys! jk

RE: Ricardo's CD Tabs Finally available (in reply to Arash

Hi guys. I have revamped my website, and now am offering transcriptions for sale. So far I just have the Rumba and Buleria available, guitar pro or pdf, but I am working to do all the rest. Go to the website and "my store".

www.ricardomarlow.com

Let me know of any browser issues, what you think of pricing, etc. I based it on some other transcription of classical guitar I found on line. I am using paypal, but you don't need a paypal account to pay, you can just use a credit card.

Hi Ricardo.

I´ve had your CD for a while and I still listen to it. Its a very good sign, because Solo Cd´s normally last very little with me.

The Solbul is my favorite but all in all its a very nice and well balanced CD. One of those where you can just put it on and listen to the whole CD. Thats what I like the most because music is something I listen to when I work.

Thanks Anders that means a lot for me! I got to play one of your guitars this summer,, and I was quite impressed! Congratulations on some outstanding work! I really like the feel your guitars have, and the bridge set up is just perfect like I like em.

The new website looks good.
I used firefox browser and it worked.
With IE there was a problem when i clicked on "purchase button". But it could be something in my PC because i had similar problems with some other websites too. So lets see what others (with IE) say.

Prices are Ok.
I am in Europe with strong Euro, so no problem with 6 or 8 $ at the moment

Hi Ricardo,

The pricing is very reasonable - just waiting on the tangos!! Tho that rumba is really neat.......

I did have a bit of trouble getting to the purchase page using internet explorer. IE is a bit flaky but it's what most people use in UK atm. I eventually got there through the link to buy the CD, but the link to purchase tabs wouldn't load.

OK now go do the tangos!

Every time I go to your site it always hangs--same thing happens on the My Store page. When I move the scroll bar I have to wait for the page to shift. I didn't see any prices either.

Yeah. IE sucks but it is what most people still use (thanks Bill Gates and Escribano Lol )
So you have to optimize your website for IE too.

Firefox and Opera are much better though.
