Toggle Capo: Gibson versus Dunlop

When I was looking for a capo I came across a Gibson toggle capo that looked a lot like the Dunlop capo I see everyone using. Problem was there were so many versions of Dunlop capos—and most were for curved fret boards. After going to the Gibson website I decided to try my luck with the Gibson Nylon String version. When it arrived I tore it out of the packaging--prominently marked “Pure Gibson” on the front and “Gibson Original Equipment” on the back—flipped the toggle open and noticed the words “Jim Dunlop” stamped in the steel frame of the capo. Apparently Gibson couldn’t improve on the Dunlop design.

It cost $3.99 plus $2 or $3 shipping at www.wwbw.com (Woodwind Brasswind). The company let me buy two or three sets of D'Addario strings on closeout for $6 at no additional shipping charge from Music123.com (the two companies have merged). I wouldn’t use this capo on a guitar with French polish, but it won’t harm other finishes. You can see a picture of it here:
