I actually have done these types of things. Normally I just act Like I am Chinese and don't speak English good. They usually hang up on me pretty quick. I only give out my Cel phone for work, my home phone is just for telamarketing fun. Actually come to think of it, my home phone has been unplugged for a LONG time now.

Thanks again, man! This will be my revenge on the telemarketers here in Tokyo - but first I have to translate this script into yakuza slang! That should scare the hell of them, though being a gaijin (foreigner) is usually enough to do the trick! Cheers!

I get really sick tired of these telemarketers myself.

One time this guy called me with a bright and chirpy voice telling me he was Jason and I had been specially selected to get the latest Mobile phone absolutely free.
I told him I wasn't interested, but of course he continued with his spiel, telling me of all the advantages etc. ..yak,yak,yak.
I finally said, "Is this a wind up or what?"
"NO, NO", he said. "This is an absolutely genuine one-time offer only to selected customers!"
Again I said "I think this is a wind up...why would I want a Mobile phone?"
He said "I don't understand...what do you mean a wind-up?"

I said "Because I've been f*ing bedridden for the last 14 years."

"Oh...I'm terribly sorry to have bothered you..." he said in a cowered tone as he put the phone down.

cheers,

Ron

Haha That was brilliant Ron.

In Germany it is still not that bad like in US or some other countries.
But they are getting more and more and all these call centers mushroom up...

I think these 2 jobs are the worst in the world:
1) Telemarketer
2) Insurance agent

I would rather clean toilets than doing one of these jobs

p.s. sorry if we should have any insurance agent here in the foro

Yeah, telemarketing isn't so bad here in Germany, but getting worse. I usually just say "No, please" and they get the idea, or I say "Oh, God" and hang up.

The worst are the door-to-door salesmen for Arcor and Freenet (cheap internet providers). They try to trick you into signing a binding contract telling you they need to check your connection. For them I take the time to give them all the information they need for the contract, then when they ask for my signature I slam the door in their face

Hab seinen Vertrag da genommen und einen Smiley dahin gekritzelt ...So -->> :)

I always confirm who the caller is so I don't hang up on someone important, and then if it's a telemarketer, I automatically hang up. Nice? I don't have to be nice and listen to their call after I know it's a junk call. Why do they call without reservation or consideration that they have already called four or five times in the week? But, I do have to answer the phone, as someone important may be calling. I think that telemarketers know that we have little or no choice but to answer the phone most of the time.

Thanks John. That was really cool

Luckily I dont have to pretend to be a stupid foreigner when I get a telemarketer on the phone. My asking them to repeat everything 3 times is genuine.......
