'Gyp' means to swindle.

In English slang it also means grief or discomfort e.g. "my leg is giving me gyp" - probably the same root, never thought about it before, thanks.

So "gyp" may derive from "gypsy" and "gypsy" derives from "Egyptian"?

It's not the same as saying "Beware of the Mexicans"
My Mexican girlfriend would find that very funny (probably not).

I'm only repeating what I was taught - not in school, mind you, didn't check facts to be honest. "Egyptian" of course makes the most sense. Possibly the US term "gyp" did come after "Gypsy". There are lots of hidden racist terms in our everyday language like that which I've heard about but am not sure whether it's true, like why they're called JEWels...

And I changed "Mexican" to "American", no disrespect meant. I love Mexicans

skinheads however are everywhere and wear such lovely boots.

Well skinheads from all over Europe came to pay homage last week to Franco at his tomb, close to El Escorial, built by the prisoners of war. Franco's daughter got a standing ovation. Fascist and Nazi symbols were everywhere. Scary stuff ! But the good news is it was the last one, as it will soon be banned under the new l"Law of Historical Memory"
