R.E Brune upgrade?

Hi all,

Currently own Brune 30f and have the opportunity to upgrade to original Brune flamenco model, with my 30f as part exchange.

I am really delighted with the 30f and it really is the best flamenco guitar I have ever played.

As you may already know the 30f was a special project Mr Brune embarked upon in the late 80s and early 90s. He comissioned the Japanese luthier Asturias to make the 30f for him, under his own strict quality control. His name after all, was on the label. I have spoken with Richard personally and he has informed me that less than 24 30fs were constructed.

He informed me that he rates these guitars as good as his own handmade models but due to the cost of exporting wood etc; he had no option but to discontinue the project in 1991.

Original Brune flamenco models rarely come onto the used market and the difference in the price is substantial.

Would I be paying the extra money to have an exclusive Brune model but with similar sound quality and construction, or can expect a much higher specification with a notable difference in sound quality?

Americans can't make flamenco guitars.......

Seriously though, the best person to ask would be Brune himself. I doubt there are many people here who have played both models in order to give you a good comparision.

The best thing to do would be to make arrangements to play the guitar in order to compare them yourself and see what you think.

wow, 3 out of 24 30f owners, all in the same forum! Crazy!

I just love my 30F so much, and i would never part with it.

Im actually gonna email a few people who have been looking far and wide
for a 30f, and tell them about your trade in. Brune will be selling it soon
im sure. They are a rediculously great deal.
I dont think you could do better for under 5 grand for that style guitar.
Its definatly "Old school", so....

I have only played 3 Brune guitars that I remember, so my opinion is not so good. I played a Classical Cedar top which was LOUD, and Todd's guitar the 30F very "flamenco" of course, and Brune's own personal "made for himself" flamenco guitar which was not for sale. Out of them all I would say, the one he made for himself was pretty amazing. Not sure you would be getting a guitar THAT good by trading in. I recommend that you try it out FIRST if possible. If you can't, it is a 50/50 gamble.

Thankyou all for your comments/advice. I can see that you all appreciate my dilemma.

The cost to upgrade would be.. My guitar and 3000 GBP, WOW know!!!!

50/50 doesn't sound a good bet with this amount of money.

Thanks HemeolaMan, that is good to know.

Slept on the decision last night and decided to keep by beloved 30f.

If any one wants the details of the Original Brune that is for sale here in the U.K, let me know and I will send you the details.

Zorro,

I think you made the right choice. If you already own a guitar you love and brings you absolute joy when playing it, why pay more to upgrade for you your not sure if you will like better. That's the key word, "Better". I'm sure you'd like a Brune made model, but, will you like it "better"?

Makes no difference who made it. The fact is you love it.
