OMG, I've been playing at A 435!

Jeez! I finally got one of those digital tuners, and discovered that the antique tuning fork that I've been using since childhood is tuned to A 435! My parents were antique dealers and bought it in an estate sale and gave it to me.

No wonder I was always slightly out of tune with recordings. And everybody else. Always had to retune whenever I played with anyone.

How long has it been since A 435 was in common use?

It was decided in 1885 in Vienna until it was changed to 440Hz in 1939.

Are you sure that it has 435Hz? I don't trust those digital tuners.

On the German Wikipedia page you can listen to the tones from 435 to 446Hz.

maybe your fork was at 440 and got longer...... lol

Well, I WAS sure, because the tuner told me it was, but now I'm not so sure.
So, this tuning fork was made between 1885 and 1939 -- if it's 435. It LOOKS old. Has a bronze ball on the bottom, and the stem is fancy. It is steel, not plated, and not stainless.
