lame ebay ad.

quote:

it's a good example of a Mexican flamingo style guitar

What???

"Flamingo!!!!" I thought that was just the stuff of legend.

Although a couple of days ago, some guy at work asked me what music I like to listen to, I said Flamenco straight away, to which he replied "oh, you'd get on with my girlfriend she loves all that Salsa and stuff" "In fact we went to a salsa restaraunt the other day and they serve Flamenco style food"

I didn't bother correcting him

Unfortunately all too common. I was dancing at a restaurant a while back having a Spanish evening, and all the waiters wore Hawaiian shirts and fake moustaches . And I used to play percussion in an African music band - djembes and dunduns. People at work used to say 'how's your bongo playing going?' Bongos? Wrong continent!!

So, is it our duty as flamenco guitarist/dancers or Djembe players to correct/edjucate these folk?
Or do we just bite our lip and let them continue to be ignorant??
Guess it depends on the person making the mistake and how much, any info we give, will be appreciated.
I usually just smile and go along with it.

yeah whats the point

But someone more petty corrected the seller of this Mexican style flamingo guitar because there's an addition to the ad which says "Ok, Ok! The word is flamenco!"

There's actually a quite well-known Flamenco tapas bar in Melbourne which as well as having good flamenco, also prides itself on serving 'the most flamenco cocktails around'... so minus 1/2 a point for them

Some years ago I played in a group called 'Los Ritmos Flamencos' and we were once announced in a cabaret as 'Rita's Flamingos'!

Tbh, I'd be more pissed off that they're selling a CLASSICAL guitar as Flamenco one.

Like this one?

Except it's not classical... I don't even know what it is... but we're up over the EU100 mark!
