This really pisses me off

I'm not an off topic guy.
But today I saw something on telvision that really did it.
There was this couple from the "little old south"of the US. It was "the Lord this and the Lord that"
Anyway, they tried for 6 years to get children, but without succes.
I would say, from a religious point of view, the Lord has other plans with them.

No, they did artificial insemination and gave birth to a sixtuplet.
Then it comes. The father says ( with tears in his eyes ) : "The LORD must have a lot of trust in us as parents, to give us this wonderful present "

No, idiot, he didn't trust you. If you want to give this a religious sweep : you went over his head and didn't respect his decision. AAAAAAAAHYHHH !!!

I don't begrudge anyone the joy of children and AI is a good thing. but just don't be such a religious hypocrite to try to talk precisely this into an act of....The Lord.

Sorry, had to get this out of my mind and know what you think of it.

But actually being religious is a sad thing. Why? In past times people saw lightnings, and earthquakes and couldnt explain it. Because of that they invented "god", an almighty "person" who COULD do these things, so they HAD an explanation. Today, we know this is rubbish, but people still keep inventing wrong explanations of things, mystifications, which actually explain nothing.

Yo're right Deniz. But some people get so carried away that they actually try to twist reality. And even get away with it in their narrowminded community.
They would burn us if they could, for daring to think elsewise.

IMO "God" (if there IS such a thing) has nothing to do with it. The 2 forces at work are NATURE and MAN. If conception is achieved in the conventional way, then NATURE has taken its course. And if conception happens in an artificial way, then MAN has taken matters into his own hands.

I guess some might say that "nature" AND "man" might be governed by an "almighty force". But whether or not this takes the form of what most think of as a "God" is highly debateable, imo.

RE: This pisses me really off (in reply to koella

James, the solution is pretty simple. I say: the question if god exists or not is uninteresting and irrelevant. Why? Well if he exists then he does the best he can to hide. There are things we can explain (in nature), and things we cannot. It was always like that, and sooner or later people found out an explanation. In none of these cases there is something like god.

And if he doesnt exsist, then it is even more useless to think about "him".

There is a saying i heard somewhere: "Religion is sureness without knowledge" - and that is a very dangerous thing.

Ps: "nature" cannot take its course, because it is no independent subject. A human being is a subject because he can decide what purpose he wants to follow.

Rereading your post: I was referring to something like nature philosophy! Of course it is always the PEOPLE who invent explanations about the world! I wanted to say: the theory of "god" was and IS a common mistake in every explanations he appears. Because whenever people mention him, they actually know nothing about the topic, and are inventing mystifications.

Allright, I didn't post because of yes /no God opinions.
I would like to hear an opinion on those fanatics, who USE God as an excuse for.......well.......almost anything.

And in a few posts a serious off-topic thread is strangled by philosophical blabbing and a scaring picture. Which was obviously deleted by Gods will.

Why didnt they just adopt a child in these 6 years?

There are so many children without parents and without hope in the world.

If they are so religiös and philantropists, then where was their human kindness in these 6 years?

Regarding Religion: It is Bullsh.it, i dont believe in prophets who think they can represent God. If there should be a GOD, then he (or she ) has better things to do than choosing one Man on Earch to talk to him and make him his Agent!

I will find my own way to "GOD" and dont need religions for it.
But i respect religiös people if they need it for their life.
Many religiös people are really nice and kind people. My grand parents were religiös and they never did harm to anyone, just helped people and ....so let them be happy

What i hate are religiös people with double Standard!

I had an experience with Voodoo 9 years ago that was pretty intense. As a non believer in most things supernatural, it was pretty convincing. My stance on it since then has been, if you believe in something, then it manifests. If you very deliberately don't believe, then there is no super natural stuff. But I for one can attest that for the folks that are "open" to certain things, supernatural stuff can be VERY real, and very powerful.

I also believe that relginion, supernatural stuff, voodoo, ghosts, alien abductions, scientology, etc is all part of the power of post hypnotic suggestion. Like folks have hypnotheropy and remember past lives and other BS. The power of the mind, and hypnosis is a very powerful tool.

HAHA! True, though I've been told in years to come that good looks and sex will become less important and replaced by helping with the household and food!

In any case, all the girls in school told me I was REALLY NICE

Well, that is just it. I DON'T talk about it anymore, or things start happening, coincidences. So to be safe, I just say it is a bunch of crap.

There was a joke my grandmother told me when I was a kid. There was a flood, and this very religious guy was convince he would be "saved" from the disaster. As the water came in to his house, he climbed up to his roof to wait to be saved. A boat came by and asked the guy to jump in. THe guy said "no, no, I am praying and god will save me". So the water kept coming and an hour later another boat came. "Jump in!" they said. Again the guy said no, god would save him. Finally the house went under and he was treading water. A helicopter came by and threw a rope, but still the guy said "no, god is going to save me!". So the guy drowns. He goes to heaven and kneeling before god he asks "lord, I prayed, but why didn't you save me from the flood?". God said, "well, I sent you 2 boats and a helicopter idiot!!".

What's with all the God talk? I've been told by Tom Cruise that Scientology is the right way and Ron L. Hubbard is our master. Did he lie me?

Is that the South of US you're talking about? Cause yeah, this is one sad place.
I came here about 5 years ago and it's a totally different world; it's like these guys have no clue.

It's funny, 6 children, it's like you don't get a hint, if you can't get kids must be for a reason. But no, lets bend the nature laws and do artificial insimination - don't cows have that, or rabbits?

Well okay but at least hopefully one day I'll be able to have sex with the TV on. Maybe keep a sandwich and a beer under the bed for afterwards...

Koella,

I agree with you and most of whats been said here. In terms of religious double standard and hipocrisy... Do you know the comedian George Carlin(If not youtube him) he does some great stuff about how every time a religious athlete wins an race or match etc, its always "I'd like to thank god for helping me" or "I owe thanks to Jesus who made me believe" Funny how god never gets a mention when they lose!?

He tells it a lot better obviously.

Suprising there has been no defence of these religious parents.

Bill Hicks had some good ones too.

"A lot of people like to wear crosses around their necks, do ya think when Jesus comes back he'll ever wanna see a f'in cross, man? It's like wearing a rifle penant in memory of JFK!"
