Zorro, if I were you I would try and learn AS MANY palos AS POSSIBLE. Obviously don't confuse yourself by overdoing it, and start with a some simplified falsettas. My teacher gave me ONE A4 SHEET of manuscript, and on it was ONE LINE from most of the palos, which was basically a simplified form of it, and fairly easy to get the hang of. Mark is right: there is no substitute for one-on-one tuition, even if its just an occasional supplement to books and DVDs. Personally, I am familiar with the Bulerias compas (12, 3, 6, 8, 10), and can play a simplified version of it, but I'm a LONG, LONG way off mastering it, or even playing intermediate level buleria. I will be for YEARS probably.

If Ricardo can't help you, find a good teacher locally and ask him to show you the basics of each palo, starting with the raw compas, then basic falsettas and then progressing to more complex falsettas. And spend the rest of your time absorbing (and familiarizing yourself with) as much of the music as possible.

Its not an "overnight thing". At least it hasn't been for me. But slowly and surely you will improve.

Well I guess my point is the falsetas I usually teach, that are pretty basic, don't have "names" or recording references. Like I said they are things I have learned and I don't know specifically where they came from. I gave hints as to old style guitar players to listen to. And I so happen to teach some basic compas and one or two falsetas I am talking about over at Flamenco teacher. You asked "specifically" the falsetas I use on my students. I mean I dont' know how to be any more specific. If you want me to tab the first things I teach right here...well....it ain't going to happen. Too many notes, too little time.

his students dont pay for him to tell them over the internet what falsettas to play. they pay so that he can take an hour out of his day to show them how to play the correct notes in the correct time signature, and to correct their technique.

To JAshbourne, is there any possibility that you still have this sheet and could scan it as it sounds like a fabulous way to organise an awful lot of information on one sheet of paper. I would really appreciate it if you could pass it on in some way, maybe scan it or something. If you have any ideas for quid pro quo then email or im me.

Wow, some very good stuff here, back to basics and this is where I suppose a lot of us are. This thread has been around the houses, but look at my initial post and where we are now. Exactly the info I and many others were after!

More experienced players please continue to share your knowledge of this fine art, and help others to achieve what you enjoy now.
