Beautiful piece and sound. At the end it's really rocking with all those syncopations.

There a David Russell recording of this piece on YouTube also. It's one of the casual videos he posts on his website every couple of months, so the recording quality isn't as good, and his guitar sounds a little out of tune. Plus, he's playing on one the most un-period guitars around, but I still love it.

Travis.

Hey thanks Tmock

He plays it so well...wonderful...I love this piece because it is one of the pieces that inspired me to play the guitar...i hear the julian bream version first..

But Dave really does a good job of it with the G string dropped to F#..

nice thanks

So that's what's going on! I wanted to learn this peice after I first heard him play it. I tried to learn it from the video, but the fingerings just weren't making sense. An altered tuning would do a lot to explain that, wouldn't it?

I really like how the rhythm changes going into the final passage. Again, I don't know that much about classical guitar, but I think Russell is good at bringing out the rhythmic drive of pieces. I have his Refections of Spain album, and his version of Malats Serenata Espanola is the most rhythmically vibrant interpretation I've heard.

Yes, It's the best version of the Mudarra piece I've heard, most are played with no life.

By the way it's a Vihuela, not a baroque guitar. You can see the difference between the 2 in the excellent series which this peice is from (The Guitar in Spain ).
