It seems I like him more as a acomaniyng player than as a soloist.
First time I saw him was that famous soleares video as an 11 year old screened at German TV in a newsitem about this new wonderboy. It left me flabbergasted. Totally loved it. So for years I asked spaintravelers if they had any updates. But no one ever had.
To my luck as a 15 year old he joined the yearly flamencofestifal day held in Utrecht/vredenburg with a small concert. He also brought his younger brother who didn't impress me but again I was hugely impressed by Jeronimo himself. Previously i attended a similar concert by the 16 year old Vicente and after years of silence just got hold of a Vicente life concert made around the time he won 1th prise with his Soleares. To my ears the 15 year old Jeronimo was equal if not better than the 16 year old Vicente and running behind less than their age cap.
Again, attempts to find updates of Jeronimo over here proved to be quite fruitless and about 10 years passed before I had the change to see him again, life in concert in my own hometown. I was absolutely thrilled and was hoping to see a new flamenco phenomenon like Vicente but it turned out to be one big disappointment. Not only hadn't he grow as a player (quite the opposite actualy) but he seemed to have lost track all together. Despite disliking the concert I asked him to sign my program (I still highly treasure that soleares he played as an 11 year old) which was an experience on its own, rather than just signing it he scretched it over and over again (larded with Christian outings) up to a point it almost destroyed my program.
I totally lost interest in him that day but years later when I got hold of internet I did watch some of his performances which gave me the creeps.
The videos of him acompaniyng singers are more to my likings although the solo Alegrias on the previous page is a bit more agreable as well.
