I spent 4 days with him and his wife. Great people, very nice, helpful, friendly, Juan really cares about flamenco and gets mad when someone calls him an Englishman :)
The concert here was great, maybe some of you just didn't hit into his best appearance, he tours too much, sometimes two weeks day after day, maybe that influences his playing. Here he rested (and practiced) for 3 days and gave such a good solo concert that Poznan hasn't seen for long time.

Foro Flamenco is very lively today! Thats sweet, but i hope when all the dust and smoke are gone noone lays on the floor...

As for Juan Martin...i dont get the exact Crime he commited. For me, hes more or less like Paco Pena - solid, reliable pro guitarist who sticks to the stuff he knows. I would go to see him because hes certainly better than 80% of the stuff you get to see outside spain. At the same time, i am well aware that there are better guitarists out there. But hey, hes a pro, he has to market himself! Same thing every pro here on the forum has to do. Grisha puts his videos on his page. When he receives an awesome review he will ut it on his page. Who wouldnt??? Do you know any professional in any category who, after receiving a good review, would stand up and say "Hey this is wrong, i am not nearly that good please hire this guy over there instead of me!" I think not.

What has he done? It is after all not his fault that people think hes that great! I'm really a bit puzzled about what exactly you accuse him of. Please enlighten me...and please dont take it personal, ok?

I am not sure who the question is directed at but i will tell you my story....

Hes done nothing wrong, he does what he can thats fine , good for him, his books are very helpfull, hes a wonderfull person.

I tought his technique and compositions were weak in the video to begin with for a pro who uses such a quote.

It dosent matter to me what he does, i dont care i as just giving my opinion openly as you would if u didnt like a movie. Its like its something sacred , "who are you not to like him" , "wheres your respect" is like i have to be a frekin god to have an opinion.

His music does nothing for me, sorry i wish it did it would be alot easyer around here but it dosent.

Some people around here put down modern flamenco everyday and thats ok its a talk forum, we talk, we all have opinions we all have taste, but then it got presonall and thats what really pissed me off. when someone tells me who am I to have an opinion.

and thats what happen as I see it.

Hm, I already replied earlier, but you constantly are saying the same thing over and over again, ignoring my answer(s). What kind of behaviour have you expected from me, facing yours?
Wheres your problem?

"They argue to be right..." well, as everybody does. Otherwise any discussion would loose its goal: Finding the right thing.
"...and that is it" yes, that is indeed what its all about: Presenting your view and the reasons you have for it. What more can somebody do in a discussion?

Ps: Its enough to sent me a message, as youve done. And next time, try to keep the swear words for yourself, please.

Well Florian, I think you made your point They all hit the road !
And as for Thomas, what a wonderful way to describe himself:

quote:

Just call them closet flamenco guitar players. Being a critic is easy. They have not done much to interest or teach others flamenco but they know it all.

No, Shroomy...there aren't.
Only differing views..

Some, of course will not agree with others, based on their own opinions and experiences.

Everyone...don't take all this stuff personally for heaven's sake!

It's just a heated discussion where we test our opinions and ideas.

That's all!

cheers

Don't be embarrassed Flo.
Sometimes the "hide-your-message-in-a-light-remark" thing isn't working.

That is more than difficult to believe. If it did not matter to you then why have you spent so much time bashing him and creating a Poll? As I recall this is not the only thread you have expressed your dislike for Juan Martin.

I think we got the message – you do not like Juan Martin. Is that close to what you are trying to say over, and over, and over?

Florian,

I don't know about Juan and Elton, but the chimp photo looks real. Is that a recent collaboration?
