Why does 'Search' not work for ANYTH...

What is it about the 'search' feature here? Why is it useless????

I find some item, use 'search' to find more (using an 'open' search or more refined, change the spelling, etc., just in case), and even AFTER finding a topic/material on my own, it ALWAYS comes back:

"No record matches the search criteria"

EVEN WHEN I JUST FOUND SOMETHING WITH THAT KEYWORD!!!

Arghhhhhhhhh!

Example: I just found a tab of Moraito. I used search to find more...

"No record matches the search criteria"

I just searched on "moraito tab" and got back 14 records. Hardly useless.

Here is a link to the results.

http://www.foroflamenco.com/searchpro.asp?phrase=moraito+tab&appid=ALL&topicreply=both&message=both&author=&timeframe=%3E&timefilter=0&language=single&top=50&criteria=AND&minRank=10&submitbutton=+OK+

You may have to make some tweaks to the various parameters e.g. Search Terms found in "Subject or Body" and Time Filter within "All Topics".

I am a webwriter, so I get this stuff...Tried different parameters, times, etc. Also tried this in Explorer AND Netscape....Same results. Tweaked the searches here and there, the wording, spelling....nothing...ALWAYS comes back "no results"

What the hell???

Simon;

I cannot find much using the search feature at least I cannot use it to find much that I am looking for. Could it be that we do not know how to use it properly and what the limitations are? I guess we expect a search engine like "Google".

Example:

Kate created a thread = “Paco Peña’s Week” Apr. 16, 2006 at 12:29:21 PM

I tried the default settings of the Search form and entered:
1. Paco
2. Paco Pena
3. Paco Peña’s Week

I then increased the Time Filter from the default “Within One Month” to three months, six months and then one year.

Not until I used Paco and one year did I have success. And then only records were displayed which were originally created last year. What am I doing wrong?

OS XP Professional - IE 6

Hm, I opened 2 threads in the upload section the contain the word "basic" in their titles. When I search in the text body I get some results. When I search in the subject none, and if I let it search subject AND body also nothing!

Ramon, try using google site search for it. http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&q=site%3Awww.foroflamenco.com+moraito&btnG=Search

Guys I get the same 14 as Simon. I thought possibly there could be a keyboard/coding issue as I have had mixed results in Spain and in the UK - or so I have thought.

So I did some tests. Can someone try them and see if they get anything different:

Search term = Paco tab
Search in Forum: Search All Forums
Search only: Topics and Replies
By Author: blank
Time filter: within 1 year
Search terms: single byte
Return Top: “50” results that match: “all words” minimum rank:”10/1000”

Changing ‘Search terms found in’ I get

Subject : 4
Body : 14
Subject or Body : 12

Seems a bit strange

Anyone get anything different? If so what is the language settings and O/S of your PC?
Mine's XP with UK settings. I expect this is a red herring but just in case.

PS Tom beat me to it and I didn't notice, too busy searching

Gracias... I'll use the google search method... I've tried every possible combo on the search feature. Only once did I get a hit back. Odd...

Thanks for your tests I'll have a look at the stored procedure. It might be with the hoster's text indexing set up.
