New guitar wanted: England

Hola chaps,
I live in a frozen wasteland known as East Yorkshire, where guitar shops are a little thin on the ground. I am looking for a blanca, preferably peghead, new or used , in the £500-1000 bracket.
Anybody know of any good websites/shops in England? Are you selling a similar guitar yourself?
Cheers from sunny Hull!

I found it very hard to find a good flamenco guitar in England, I would order it from the internet like www.ole-flamenco.com.

Thanks for that, it looks a good starting point. I am a lttle wary though of dealing through the internet.

You're in luck, Anders has a very nice blanca (not a peghead) that he is about to sell in your price range.

I tried it yesterday and it's sounds and plays very well. Very comfy, narrowish at the nut (which I like) and a sweet action - not too tight.

Try sending him a PM or email.

Simon

I would also go for Anders' guitars, but that would be above your price range.

I think London is okay for buying guitars, and there are a few shops specialising in acoustics around central London (eg. The Spanish Guitar Centre, etc.) however, Flamenco seems to be a minority interest, so the chances are that 9 out of 10 mainstream guitar shops won't have many Flamenco guitars in stock (if any). You'd be best trying a specialist centre like the one I mentioned.

A lot of the time, shops will "order" your guitar, meaning that you won't get to try it on the spot without puting down an ordering deposit. Therefore, when ordering a guitar you should try and order the best you can afford. Personally, I would go for one of Anders' guitars... they have an excellent reputation, so you are less likely to get a dud one. If Simon has tried it and says its good, then thats another incentive. And there's no Import tax from items within the EU. As long as you use an insured courier service, I can't see any problems.

El Ted,
It's just a nightmare trying to buy a Flamenco Guitar in the UK.
Unless you know somebody personally who is selling one, you'll be offered 4 or 5 in your price range each hundreds of miles away and will have to take a week off work and pay for travel and accommodation to try them all out.
Ask Jon!
He had the dough in his hand, living near London...and still found it a total hassle.

Personally speaking, if Anders still has that one for sale right now, I'd grab it!

Also going to Spain isn't going to help, unless you're pretty lucky or desperate enough to pay over the odds IMO.

The only other thing I can say, is try to buy off a Forum member.

I bought a student Bernal from Jim.O a couple of years ago, and it's a great guitar for the price.
I doubt very much if Forum members would knowingly sell you something that they didn't think was good themselves.

I was pretty impressed by Armando's guitars too...but I don't know if the ones he's building at the moment will be in your price range.

cheers

Ron

Morning chaps,
Thanks to all for the input, a lot of it almost sage like! I have decided to buy Anders blanca, and have already started the ball rolling with him. I have read enough reports about his guitars here to know it will be bloody good. It's funny how buying a new guitar puts a sort of spring in your step that nothing else can equal!
Enormously large thanks to Simon for telling me about this guitar, and also for creating this forum. Without it I would never have heard about Anders or his work.
Cheers from sunny Hull.

Use IBAN and BIC, it keeps the commissions acceptable.

Hola frhout,
I used IBAN, Anders reckons the guitar should be with me towards the end of this week. I hope he manged to fit the stacked humbuckers and coil taps that I specified.

If it's not a secret, can you let me know how much is for the shipping (just the shipping) to the UK? Or should I ask Anders directly?

yO DUDE,
I can't think why shipping should be a secret. In my case it was 118euros. Different carriers may charge different rates. Anders will tell you better.

I know el ted that you live in the cold north but for those who could scrounge a lift to and from Stanstead for less than 200 Es with an overnight stop you could go and pick it up. In late april for example the return airfare can be £50 return (leave crack of dawn and return next day late at night). There are buses to and from the airport and also between Granada and Anders mountain hideaway. And a local hotel that's clean and cheap. I would recommend it.

Ted I'm in Leeds next week; no chance there is any flamenco around???

Bugger all in Leeds at the moment Nigel. The Leeds Pena seem to have shut up shop (temporarily maybe) How long are you over hear for? Maybe some of us in Hull could hook up with you.

Ted just thought I'd ask. Thought it unlikely but I would have shot myself if there had been something and I missed it.

I'm in Leeds for certain next Wednesday/Thursday but if all goes well several times May to July. If I get the chance I'll be in contact. It would be great to meet up if only for a pint. I've managed to meet three members of the foro face to face - enjoyed each one mucho

Hola chaps,
My new guitar arrived yesterday from Anders in sunny Quentar! If this an example of his 2A's, what are the first graders like?? It is a REAL flamenco guitar! It blows my dear old Rafael Morales and fleet of factory models out of the water. It barks at you, it's loud, percussive and rich in tone. It is also 'fast' ie, everything I play seems to be a bit easier and faster than usual. Also, the shorter 650mm scale suits my tiny girly hands. I can't wait to play it alongside Robin Kayes herd of Reyes when we meet on sunday.
A serious professional standard guitar for the price of a soulless factory model. Sod the mortgage, buy one!

Having recommended it, I am glad it turned out well and that you like it

I thought you'd like the playability, I have asked Anders to do the same neck profile on mine.
