The Foro Logo

Why foroflamenco logo is a dancing woman? Is there any reason behind it?
As we all know flamenco is cante. Or maybe baile? In a book about Carmen Amaya by Mario Bois, the author wrote baile is the leading element in flamenco. Cante follows the dance. The guitar lays the musical groundwork and connects the both. But I still believe flamenco is cante.

The logo is a picture of Escribano in his prime, when he was a professional dancer on staff at Casa Patas.

How would you portray cante as a logo?

If you look closely at the picture of Escribano it appears his mouth is open. He is singing. He’s not dancing, he’s just strutting his stuff.

JasonM has a nice avatar. Could be an option.

Or something like this:

JasonM has a great avatar. I always thought it was of himself, but I have no idea.

But really, the Foro’s dancer has been around for a long time. Why change?

I reckon that someone who first joined the Foro in October 2019 feels the urge to clean house.

Lots of folks offer up opinions about Flamenco topics, though they have limited experience. Sometimes people that don’t even yet own a flamenco guitar, if you can imagine!!!!

I didn't write the dancing woman should be changed. I've wondered what is the story behind.
Maybe one can add on the right side of the foro flamenco a cante/guitar figure. I thought it could complete the foro banner.

Why some people judge someone based on this. It's all bout desire and efficiency. It's not about how long. I saw many guys on the foro joined 5 or 10 years ago asking questions like Could anyone recommend a good learning material for a flamenco beginner. Due to my desire I informed myself about it in one day.

Actually I like the color of the skirt she's wearing. My white shirt has dark blue and black dots too.

I know I was new to flamenco around 1.5 years ago. Since then, thanks to the foro (Mr. Marlow you're not blameless in this) I've gained immense knowledge about flamenco such that I can even share my opinion without owning my first flamenco guitar.

You’re right. My bad.

And of course you don’t need to own a flamenco guitar to have an appreciation of the art. Hopefully you can get one soon, though, it’ll make a difference. You’re off to a good start with the polka dot shirt. Muy flamenco.

For many reasons, it is going to stay as it is for a while. Thanks for your interest, though.

I think it's Chicuelo. Great picture but I'm not sure it makes sense to make a known person the logo for a forum.

@mark indigo that's the truest thing ever posted on the internet

Like RobF I've always thought it was JasonM himself. Using it as a logo was a joke. That facial expression in his avatar always cracks me up whenever I see it. It looks like JasonM or Chicuelo, whoever that is, is accompanying himself in cante.

Well I know Rob isn’t really Segovia because he would have called us all out on being flamenco playing barbarians by now. Come on guys this is the internet where everyone pretends! Make believe land! Like, Andy is not really a fine talented luthier he’s school janitor named Bob or something, right? Or, maybe he is a rocket surgeon named Elvis. Or Ernandez, who lives in the great wild Alaska and must build an airplane out of Spanish Cedar to escape the Moose that’s trying to kill him. Pretty sure that only happens on discovery channel.

Years, ago I tried to change my avatar but the foro Software would not let me upload a pic. So that’s that.

My personal favourite avatar around here is BarkellWH. My art knowledge is woeful but I think it's a Picassso sketch of Don Quixote if memory serves?

Personally I chose my avatar very carefully to represent the quality of my opinions, which is why it prominently features b0ll0cks. (Americans - ask a British friend to explain that joke).

I actually did think it was you, but my lament was really just a set-up for my poke at devilhand, lol. The Chicuelo avatar is great, it captures a positive moment and is very flamenco. I hope you don’t change it.

Next, someone’s going to tell me that isn’t really Ricardo.

RobF,

I don't like divulging private info on public pages, but I'm briefly changing my avatar and putting up a picture of me so you can have some relief in all of this and see what I actually look like.

Oh God you went there...
Sorry, I'm not handling my age very well so I tried to trick you with a slightly older picture.
It seems like just yesterday this was me:

What say you Escribano? Isn't it time to change the logo and call this foro "Foro Vladette"?

At least some of us luthiers are not afraid to whip out some wood for our avatars ;)

(HR runs and hides for making tastless forum comment under the influence of pain pills and dog knows what)

And what is the Foro dancer doing dancing under Englés's outsized cojones anyway?

And for dogs sake feel free to delete this Simon.

Darn I thought Piwin was Kim ‘rocket man’ Un all this time.

There is a pic of me (very old) in one of these threads around here posing with Vicente.

Because it is a great excuse to get occupied by something else than exersising falseta's hour after hour after hour.. :-)

RE: The Foro Logo (in reply to devilhand

I’m pulling up my trousers because the sh*t runs deep here.

The logo is very old and comes from the ‘Captain Bob‘ era of the foro when it was in transition from the Temple.edu hosting in the late 1990’s

Only a few people remember those days. People who were on that list have died, gone crazy and also drank the koolaids of the foro gurus of the past.

Ron knew about the foibles of Cpt. Bob. There was another fellow who died in 2004 or 5 who I liked a lot and corresponded with, but having trouble with his name. He was interesting because we talked about art. He called Rembrandt ‘Old Rum Blossom’

The logo, meh, you shoulda been here for the epic fights and duels of the 90’s. There was some blood spill, but overall the talk was fresh.

Logo off

Signed your pal and graduate of Putin’s fine palace of Putotonic Putocrats
