Another inquiry for interesting spot...

Hi guys,

A good friend of mine is going on a short trip to Spain, from mid to end of September this year (route: Malaga -> Granada -> Sevilla -> Jerez del Frontera -> Gibrartar Marebella- > Malaga) and he would love to visit some authentic flamco locations (places attended by local folks), as well as try out some of simple but decent culinary spots.
All on a rather small budget in the same time.

I told him that chaps on our foro are well informed about worthy spots there and promised to ask you for some kind pointers.

Safe bet in Jerez is El Pasaje. Can get packed and had a fair few tourists. But entry is free, there is music most nights, and drinks prices are very reasonable. And a sherry bodega ttrip is a must.

Granada, plenty of busking flamenco artists in the square outside the church /cathedral.

Malaga, the old Moorish fort isn't that famous yet one of the more interesting ones fora mooch round. And seafood....

As an alternative to the Al Hambra the Real Alcazar Gardens in Sevilla are worth the visit (get ticket online and get there in the early morning!)

Monday evenings (>10pm) there's usually live flamenco at the Corral de Esquivel or the Cafe Central on the Alameda de Hercules / Sevilla

A guitar teacher from Taller Flamenco and their students normally gather there every Monday to get to know each other. Outside people are welcome to join in to sing. But in last November and the Spring this year Taller Flamenco also held some of their gatherings at Taberna Gonzalo Molina on Calle Relator 59., Sevilla. This is a very small venue, no seats. The last couple of times it was packed with people standing on the streets listening to two guitarists. My favorite Flamenco joints are Pena Torres Macarena and La Carboneria. The atmospheres there are more authentic. Price 8€ at Torres Macarena; free at La Carboneria.

Here are just a few places off the top of my head.
Malaga bars:
Taperia de Sybaris - cheap drinks (and one of a handful of places in Malaga that still give free tapas). The food and service are great too.
La Tranca - just a brilliant and lively place to hang out. Started seven years ago by an Argentinean chap named Ezequiel and now one of Malaga's favourites.

Granada bars (for a local experience and great food but you'll have to squeeze your way in):
Las Provincias - cheapest beer in the centre of Granada and great food
Casa de Julio - small but perfect
Rincon de Rodri - amazing seafood, always packed with locals
Rincon de Cristobal - choose your own free tapas, lovely atmosphere with local wines and artisan beers
Esquinita de Javi - there are two of them - great seafood again (or try the testicles!)
Avila - again, there are two of them near each other, both very popular with locals
Taberna Malvasía - one for wine buffs - amazing selection
Los Diamantes - a Granada classic and worth a visit, there are three bars now but the original and best is on Calle Navas, you have to force your way in and shout your order across the bar to get served but it's all part of the appeal

Flamenco in Granada:
Head to Sacromonte and follow your ears into one of the bars, you could stumble on something special depending on who is playing.
Taberna Chica - Great bar near the centre where some of the guitarists and luthiers hang out. Don't go before 11pm or you might be drinking alone. Always flamenco playing in the background and sometimes impromptu live performances. Really good tapas too.
For more organised tourist-friendly flamenco shows with fixed price entry fee, there are quite a few places such as Le Chien Andalou and Los Olvidados located in the Albaicin.
