Samuelito Solera

Hi,

I introduce this player (with Antoine Boyer who is at least as talented) to the forum a while back and there are a couple threads now about him.
He has really come into his own.

Here is a video from solera flamenca. A nice buleria with different variations from his previous one :

You should also really check Antoine Boyer out too if you like guitar or just good musicians. I heard a lot of guitarists and I have don't think I've come across with someone who is both very advanced and interesting in different styles (classical, jazz (and gipsy jazz)). This guy compose, arrange and plays very well with an interesting take on everything :

The album they made together is really good full acoustic, beautifully recorded and very diverse it's called "Coincidence" and you can find it on spotify it has a nice bulerias in it which you can find on this thread :

Yeah insane talent. i discovered Antoine through Samuelito and he's ****ing good too he recorded his first album at 13 ahah. Check his channel and you might get two Uber guitarists for the price of one. The guy is actually improvising counter voices on tune like donna lee my brain hurts just thinking about it and it stays really musical.

I have seen both of them together and solo live it was really great. For me in this generation they are certainly in the top tier ! Did you know that Roland Dyens who is in my mind the most interesting classical guitarist of the second part of the 20th century
has dropped a kind word on their first album together. There is one tune of him "songe capricorne" who I like very much, Antoine wrote a second voice based on the original tune and its really good. Even Jason Becker dropped a word on the first video of Antoine that I posted, JASON BECKER :)

Yeah I've been following both their music for the last good few years and chatted online with Samuel on a few occasions.

I don't know How can you be so good :) Plus I find their music very mature, they both have a really really good technique but they know how to use it. You don't see Samuelito abusing picado all the time (nino de pura ?) or Antoine repeating runs as fast as he can (rosenberg ?). A lot of kids (and adults) with this level of technique can fall into this trap.

Yes he is great.....I think he has more direction to his phrasing than some of the other modern guys.

I think Pepe’s got a tiny bit more Jerez funk in his phrasing.

Yes good dynamics too, Roland surely taught them well.

I watched his PDL concert videos a while back and was shocked.

This guys playing is too notch . His timing and right hand are so clean, sort of like how Gerardo Nunez plays. Even if I'm not crazy about a falseta I simply enjoy listening to his playing. Hope to see more of him

I highly recommend Samuelito's cd, SOLO, recorded last year. In my unsophisticated opinion, it captures a nice blend of his flamenco and classical skills. My favorite track is "Jerejef" and it's probably the most unique piece on the album.

Anyway, he's an amazing talent.

Have enjoyed that Buleria ever since it was posted by Solera. Is it off one of his cd’s? We also need a transcription from our own JimiHendrix

It's not on the "Solo" cd he recorded last year. "Solo" is an interesting recording, but in my opinion, it's a guitar album that includes different influences, i.e., flamenco, classical, jazz. I really like it, but I tend to prefer more modern flamenco recordings that have some non-traditional elements.

Phew, so he IS human :-) His accompanying is still a bit strained and nervous; the difference between playing with full control (his solo work) and playing a bit more on the edge...

I had a really cool, surreal weekend! I went to see Samuelito play with 3 other guys (Antione, Turkish guitarist Cenk Erdogan, and Luca Stricagnoli). It was a sold out show and a big audience, many people came to see this Luca fella who plays like Andy McKee stuff

I went back stage with my Luthier friend because Cenk had a crack in his guitar he wanted checked out. Anyway, I was checking out Samuelito’s guitar (the negra he plays in videos) and we got to talking for a long time drinking some beers and nerding out on some flamenco. The next day Samuelito and the other 3 guys wanted to hang out so we got some lunch and hung out around town till late evening.

Samuelito is able to absorb music like a sponge. For example he could play almost every Vicente Amigo piece, as good as Vicente himself. Although he studied classical guitar at a conservatory he learned flamenco pretty much from YouTube. Emulating Paco and other players. He gave me some technique pointers and corrected a problem I’ve had with getting my abinico up to speed. But I was really embarrassed to play in front of him 😂

He wants to start making high quality YouTube videos on playing and technique to give back to the YouTube community and help others out. He’s also working on his next album and other collaborations. One with a singer that will cover 60 different palos, and another with singer Alberto Garcia.

Cenk is doing a collaboration album with Rycardo Moreno (I got to talk with him over FaceTime a bit) and Pirrana. Cenk is pretty incredible. And Antione is a really nice kid, very quiet but funny and a real prodigy.
